Just announced, former Mayor of Calgary (2001-10) Dave Bronconnier has released a design proposal for the development of a large food hall and market to be erected on a triangular parcel of land in East Village. To be located upon an irregular property sandwiched between the 4 Ave SE and 5 Ave SE flyovers and the banks of the Bow River, what is proposed to be named The Corner will feature a mix of food stalls, restaurants, and a food court.

Today the CEO of Interloq Capital, a Calgary-based real estate investment firm, Broncconner is excited about the project's transformative potential, the $5 million project, if approved, to deliver a much-needed service to the rapidly expanding East Village neighbourhood. An early advocate for East Village's urban redevelopment during his mayorship, Bronconnier is especially interested to add one of the final pieces to his legacy.

Currently owned by the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), the plot upon which The Corner would stand will be bought by Interloq following approval from City Hall, which would allow construction to begin as early as next year. A good fit for the East Village, today home to 11,000 residents, the facility will likely be a welcome addition to the neighbourhood.
