More than five years in the making, Calgary's Brookfield Place began its ascent in 2015. Fast-forward to today, and the consensus appears to be that the striking appearance of the recently-lit crown has made the project well worth the wait. Designed by Arney, Fender and Katsalidis, and developed by Brookfield Properties, the 1.4 million square-foot, 56-storey tower Brookfield Place has also taken the crown, so to speak, having become Calgary's tallest building.

Calgarians got their first glimpse of the crown lighting on May 2nd, as it was being tested. For the next week or so the lighting was intermittent during the testing, revealing multiple colours, including red, light blue, dark blue, and purple. Since last week, the lighting system has been active on a regular basis.

The general consensus among members weighing in on the Brookfield Place discussion forum appears to show that the majority believe that the special lighting feature is at least as good as, or even better than expected.

With the building now fully compete, and tenants such as Scotia Bank already having moved in, and Cenovus not far behind, all that is left is to see how many different colour combinations will be displayed, and whether or not there will be any added themes or unique displays to come about as time goes on.
