Flashy renderings portray a dense transit-oriented development with ground-level retail and a public plaza on the vacant land surrounding Westbrook LRT station. Developer Matco Group has devised a concept for 'Uptown at Westbrook,' painting a multi-faceted picture for the site formerly occupied by Ernest Manning High School.

Zeidler Architecture and Munoz Albin Architects have proposed two mid-rise buildings anchored by 60,000 square feet of ground-level retail spilling out onto a public plaza. Some 500 residences will occupy 407,000 square feet of the tower levels. But the plans are still in their early stages, and Matco Group is hoping to utilize the site in the short-term while the market recovers to a position where they would be comfortable breaking ground.

According to CTV News, Matco is proposing to build a temporary 7,400-square-foot indoor soccer dome and a 400-stall surface parking lot, a plan that is receiving mixed reactions so far. The planning department is in the midst of reviewing the proposal.
