Calgary's urban landscape has been irrevocably changed over the last year. The city has a new tallest building, its downtown skyline continues to extend beyond its traditional borders, and a diverse range of mid- and low-rise developments are adding gentle density to busy corridors. And despite a sluggish economy and high office vacancy rates, Calgary witnessed a healthy number of building completions in 2017. To provide a snapshot of how the urban fabric has evolved this year, and to recognize which developments have had the greatest resonance with our readers, SkyriseCalgary is hosting its second annual year-end poll.
Through careful observation and the help of our community, a list of 2017's building completions has been created. But which of these projects are the darlings of SkyriseCalgary? You have the opportunity to select your favourites. To even the playing field a bit, the nominees have been split into two categories organized by height.
For the purposes of the survey, we've classified projects as complete if construction activity has evidently concluded and the building is visibly occupied, even if just on one floor. The survey has been designed to be as comprehensive and inclusive as possible, but if any of your favourite projects are not listed, we've added an 'other' option at the bottom of each poll.
With so many great buildings stacked into the two categories, it might be difficult to pick a favourite. So we've lessened the burden by allowing you to select up to three projects in each category. All building entries feature a link to the respective Database file or Forum thread, where you can learn more about the development to help inform your decision.
You can also explore what gifts 2017 brought to Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto, in those cities' respective polls. All surveys will be closed at midnight on January 1st when we ring in the new year, with the results posted the following day. You don't have to be a SkyriseCities member to participate. So take the survey here, share the link and get out the vote!
