Just over a dozen character homes have met the wrecking ball in Hillhurst, where Anthem Properties is developing a five-storey, 93-unit condominium complex. The century-old residences at 1134 to 1160 Memorial Drive NW have been relegated to the history books, as excavation for the Rositch Hemphill Architects-designed project moves forward.

The boutique wood-frame project, encompassing 42,000 square feet, will benefit from city and river vistas. Situated steps from Sunnyside and Downtown West LRT stations, the developments' residents will have easy access to the downtown core. A single level of underground parking will be provided, with loading located in the rear laneway.

A development permit for the project was submitted by Anthem in March 2016. The site is now a frenzied construction scene, with excavators digging below grade to shape the parking garage.
