After a year and a half of construction, Truman's The George on 17th recently opened for occupancy. The eight-storey, purpose-built luxury rental building, designed by NORR Architects, has added 60 fully furnished apartment suites to Calgary's downtown market.
Location is one of the key selling points for this building. The George is located right in the heart of Calgary's 17th Ave entertainment district, which offers access to over 70 restaurants and shopping amenities, eight fitness centres and 12 different transit hubs all within a 10 minute walk, with Calgary's Central Business District only a 10 to 15 minute stroll away. On top of those assets, a new Urban Fare grocery store is currently under construction a block away, and will be finished next year.
Along with the stylish suites and amenities, The George on 17th also offers sweeping views of Calgary's Beltline neighbourhood as well as the downtown skyline. We were recently given a building tour by Zana Luckin, property manager with Truman, to see for ourselves, and indeed the views are impressive. Those that prefer a quieter and more natural vista can also look out south towards Mount Royal and Lower Mount Royal.
Some may wonder where the name 'The George on 17th' comes from. As it turns out, the name is a nod to Truman founder George Trutina, and the trademark moustache logo on the outside of the building is a take on George's distinctive facial hair.
