The newly formed cbstudio architecture is looking to break through in a city with a built form defined by established local and international architects, and while the company itself is a recent arrival to Calgary's architecture scene, the partners behind cbs come with a wealth of experience. It's a collaborative practice founded by designers Heather Cameron and Chris Brett, a husband-and-wife team who have been involved in creating and managing architectural projects across Canada, the United States and abroad for over 30 years. Their experience overseas and in Canada has allowed the firm to work with notable heavyweights such as Skidmore, Owings & MerrillHOK and B+H Architects.

Founding partners Heather Cameron and Chris Brett are both originally from Canada, but have spent much of their architecture careers living and working abroad in places like Finland, Rome, New York City and Qatar. The two have amassed an impressive résumé, having worked on a variety of projects of all types and sizes that include large-scale endeavours like Doha's Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium. The stadium, which is now built, will be used as the flagship venue for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022. The project saw Heather Cameron serving as Managing Director and Christopher Brett as Design Manager while consulting for B+H Architects in Qatar.

Another project in the duo's portfolio is 7 World Trade Center, the first tower in New York City's renewed World Trade Center project. 7WTC was completed with Heather Cameron working as Senior Technical Architect while employed at Skidmore Owings & Merrill in New York City.

After a move from New York City to Cameron's hometown of Calgary in 2005, the pair began work at Kasian Architecture, with Heather working as a Senior Project Manager while Chris worked as a Senior Designer. They collectively collaborated on projects such as the Seoul Space Center, the proposed First Canadian Centre Phase 2 tower and a proposed three-tower development to accompany the Kahanoff Centre here in Calgary.

Their expertise led them to smaller scale projects in Calgary and Canada, including the Fifth and Fifth lobby and podium renovation, which was completed by Heather Cameron as Project Manager and Christopher Brett as Lead Designer while employed at Kasian. The Montrose Cultural Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta, designed in collaboration with Teeple Architects, is also one of Cameron's most significant works.

In 2007, the two would undertake the task of opening up the Calgary office for the globally renowned HOK Architects. Aside from opening and managing the office, they also worked on a number of projects locally and abroad, including the proposed Cameco Head Office in Saskatoon and the Palm Deira Business Park in Dubai.

After starting up the office for HOK, Chris and Heather would do it again, but this time overseas in Doha, where they established the Qatar office for B+H Architects. The two worked on a diverse list of projects ranging from stadiums, to restaurants, to summer palaces for the Royal Family of Qatar. The list of work they have been engaged in is extensive; suffice to say, the two have a vast amount of valuable international experience.

Following their time in the Middle East, Heather and Chris returned to Calgary where the two once again opened up a new office, this time their own company, cbstudio architecture. As creative and collaborative problem-solvers, their goal is to make sustainable architecture through considered and efficient responses.
