A transformative recladding and renovation of the podium of the former Encana Place office complex shows visible signs of progress as monochrome glass is installed along the angled corner elevation of the tower base. The property, which stands at 150 9th Avenue across the street from the Calgary Tower and the Fairmont Palliser Hotel, was built in 1981.

Designed by Gibbs Gage Architects, the work includes upgrades to the entry plaza, which will host a collection of casual and formal gathering spaces. Inside, connections to the Plus 15 system are moved to the south side of the building into a larger lobby atrium. The new main floor lobby is skinned in a full-height glass facade, while a third floor fitness facility and patio space services tenants.

The 30-floor building boasts 446,297 square feet of space and 52 underground parking stalls. Brion Energy occupied one-third of the property before their move to the newly built 707 Fifth. They followed in the footsteps of Encana, which had previously employed 1,200 staff at the complex. Encana completed the relocation of their workforce to The Bow in March 2013.

Calgary-based Aspen Properties purchased the tower for an undisclosed amount in 2015 and immediately established plans to redevelop the site. The renovation will upgrade the building's designation from Class B to a Class A office tower. Work on the project is expected to be completed in late 2017.
