I think the city branded West Village as a counter to the East Village when they were drafting the initial redevelopment plan, though I do recall there potentially being a name change. Obviously having the Downtown West End right beside the West Village is confusing, so I think a new name would be ideal.

Speaking of which, it is hilarious that we call the area west of 14 St the "West Village". Since when do three car dealerships and an abandoned bus station constitute a village?

It’s an eclectic mix like the Village People, but needs a YMCA to complete it.

I’m sitting here at Loophole coffee under the trees and lights and saw this mural for the first time peaking over the roofs. Is the West Village becoming... a nice place??

That Loophole Cafe is a really great hidden gem. Hard to describe, but it's very not the typical Calgary approach - good coffee but also it's tiny, quirky, indoor/outdoor, hyper local focused - something we need more of.

Neighbour Coffee in Altadore is similar, although not nearly as hip. Never been to Loophole but it looks like a cool spot!
