I am creating a thread for the new Shoppers Drug Mart that is planned for the former Molson offices on the north side of 1st Avenue in Bridgeland, located here.

The reason I am creating the thread is, the amended plans look a LOT better than the initial submission. Check them out here:

There is also a concurrent land-use to enable the new design by the looks of it:

As a reminder, this is what the initial submission looked like:

This is going to be so beautiful, a great focal point for the community of Bridgeland, and a continuation of a positive trend of investment for them.

A little frustrating that it's some faceless Loblaws subsidiary corpo. Here's hoping Bridgeland Market and Lukes don't struggle in the face of competition. Either of those tenants would be much more suitable for a development like this.

I don't really see Bridgeland Market struggling. That place is a core part of the neighborhood, and there's not much overlap that Shoppers could offer (perhaps as an alternate for some cheaper milk). Lukes is pretty ingrained too, but I could see this having more of an effect, as people could go here instead for some of the medical basics instead of walking down the hill. But in general, people in Bridgeland are pretty loyal to their institutions.

Personally, I'd rather not see 4 more stories of condos on top of this. The smaller, quirky low-rise buildings is what makes this street great. Keep the height on the south side and down the hill.

/guy who lived across the street from the Molson's building.
