100% it is to discourage loitering. Gates have been added recently along the south side emergency exit stairwells to prevent homeless people from loitering in those locations as well so it appears to be a focused effort across the property.

Agreed .. It's most assuredly being done to keep the street druggies from gathering, shooting up and hanging out on the benches in front of the West Tower entrance – which has been an ever increasing problem since the construction staging area was removed earlier in the summer.

(Drug users injecting and smoking crack directly in front of the lobby is a rather unattractive feature when potential condo buyers are arriving to view show suites).

I understand the Shoppers Drug Mart in the SE corner of the development is scheduled to open in Nov/Dec.

We're reaping what was sowed 30 years ago when the Feds and Provinces completely abandoned housing. And, relatedly, municipalities turned to commercial real estate development as a source of revenue due to Provincial cutbacks and the desire to keep residential property taxes extremely low.

Don’t forget we also stopped putting the homeless on the greyhound and sending them to Vancouver. That’d fix the problem real quickly

Yes. Alberta and Saskatchewan regularly would just give them a one way ticket to Vancouver.
