No towers to be built here though. Low rise is it. When I bought my house in 2018 I was told I can’t build taller than 40m.

Rules made by a City Council can always be undone / remade by a subsequent City Council.

Does Airdrie need towers? 6 stories seems perfectly appropriate for "high density" there.

If I recall correctly, Airdrie doesn't have adequate firefighting equipment for highrise towers, which is one reason they don't have towers there and likely won't anytime soon.

wouldn't be too hard to 'prove' that a high tower would more than pay for itself. plus buy a firetruck to grease the wheels of the fire department. Who doesn't want more and diverse equipment
