Vancouver has plenty of subsidised housing and it's not exactly working out of them. I'm not sure how things operate Houston but I think their crisis is less severe than Canadian cities and West Coast American cities. It could also be that their homelessness is less linked to substance abuse...

I feel like the whole riverwalk is lacking food and cafe options. The sidewalk citizen bakery and Phil&Sebastian close way too early, and both are quite pricy. Would be cool to have a coffee shop with stays open late and some cheap food options. Maybe a burger place.

It's crazy so many projects are popping up when the rental market is quite dire and oversupply will make it even worse. The developers must have great confidence in the long term outlook of Calgary

Ah man I dream of a nice soccer stadium downtown. That would make Cavalry the biggest club in the league, I'm sure attendance would be double of what it is now. Bonus points if it's big enough to host some national team matches.

I think it would be interesting to have a study estimating the cost of to society (including social costs) of one homeless drug addict roaming around in the city. Building dedicated facilities will probably not seem that expensive in comparison.

I've been walking downtown lately and man it's rough. I'm confident downtown will be in a way better shape in 2/3 years but for now, we lost some important public spaces to construction and that makes the homeless issue even more visible. I don't remember being it that bad. Anyone shares this...

It's also completely isolated from the rest of the "neighborhood". Crossing 4th and 5th Ave is a horrible experience, you have to wait 10 minutes for the light to go green for pedestrians, if you remembered you to push the button.

Seems like some developers are starting to get it.

The efforts are nice but downtown still has a long way to go. Its still not a very attractive place to hang out in. The homeless issue is also worst than ever, although that’s a national trend. I took the decision to move out of the East Village because it’s been just too much lately.

I find it crazy to buy a condo without checking the area lol. It's a good area though, lots of bars and clubs. Can be a bit noisy at night, especially with the CP tracks.

This area deserves some love.
