    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Trent was an excellent guy, truly a tragedy and shame.

    Douglas Place Apartments | 21m | 6s | Nuera Properties | KN

The buildings are not bad at all, the site design and surroundings are a literal moonscape of asphalt/concrete though, it's a shame.

Really hope this parking lot gets developed

    Eau Claire Place II | 68m | 17s | Pacific Reach

Save the money on painting the buildings and put all the money saved into soil cells for mature street trees and better landscaping and a good at-grade experience, from my perspective.

    Bluestone | 78m | 18s | Amble Ventures | NORR

I get what you are saying Golfing Guy. Happy this is a parking lot getting replaced by purpose-built rental. Not a fan of the elevations and colour choices. I think the multi-coloured balconies and odd colour changes for no particular reason are not a style that will age well. It is also...

    General Construction Updates

You'd probably still have parking behind as well, there is a lot of land. Just don't have the parking interface with the plaza and riverwalk. You could probably get both done for the interim solution. Something like BOXPARK in the red area, parking and back of house in the yellow area:

    General Construction Updates

I hope the interim condition of the old market and townhome site isn’t only contemplated as a parking lot. There are a lot of people using the riverwalk and plaza and as discussed here there is a lack of retail to service that. Something like a BOXPARK that is in Shoreditch or Camden (in...

I hope so. We'll know it has fully become Robson St when we have 10 ramen shops to choose from on the same street and a Muji store.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Parts of Stephen Avenue have really nice heritage architecture, ~2.5 blocks are very nice. Obviously subjective, but these frontages in red are really nice architecture: Yellow outline is the entire plan area for the E-W extent of the improvements. Over the full 12 blocks that are anticipated...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Seems like the design consultant used the Stroget as inspiration for the design for Stephen Ave. Stroget in Copenhagen relies on great architecture of the buildings around it to have a minimalist streetscape design. Stephen Ave requires more landscaping to distract from boring architecture IMO.

    The Morrison | 119m | 35s | Western Securities | Hindle Architects

I like this a lot actually. Nice balconies for all unit, a different colour palette from the charcoal and white and looks to be brick. Only bummer is I had heard Western Securities had a parcel down 1 St SW and was under the impression it was this lot: Does anyone know who owns this lot?

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I was being hyperbolic, i'm aware of the difference between a freeway and a stroad with very oversized lanes. That said, if you have the same amount of vehicular throughput lanes and the designed width of the lanes is the same width as most sections of Deerfoot Trail, I would say that yes the...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I just don’t think we need 4 oversized one way freeways through the downtown (4th, 5th, 6th and 9th). Repurposing most of the 6 Ave ROW to serve LRT and bus lines seems reasonable to me and I would imagine it would reduce a lot of the bottle necks we see with capacity on 7 Ave currently. We have...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Underground on 8th Ave would be expensive AF, water table is high tons of possible cost over runs. Just re route the blue line at-grade to connect with itself on 6 Ave and leave 7 Ave for the Red Line. Leave 8 Ave as currently designed. Just an opinion

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Man this is where I have trouble. I drive a pretty low car and I’m totally for raised intersections to slow traffic, but they have to be actually constructed as being gradual changes and not shelves to high centre a car on. I angle my car if I need to but some are so poorly constructed. My...

    The Broward | 19m | 6s | Truman | MoDA

Truman seems to be leaning towards getting primed Hardie panels and EasyTrim and painting onsite like they did at 1905 College. Good chance that is what they are doing here.

    EV606 | 22m | 6s | Alston Properties | ATLRG

This building rules. Sick brick detailing, has a mews and interacts with the river correctly. good urban design in every way i love it. For a builder and company out of Winnipeg, they just turned out one of the best projects in the city by far. Patios will probably be great. So far, attention to...

    Richmond Green | 22m | 6s | Sarina Homes | Casola Koppe

Very nice design! Only thing i would personally change is tight the driveway aisle up to 6.1m instead of 7.2m to add more landscape area to the fronts of the buildings, or to add a bit of landscaping relief on the backsides of the building. Really love the elevations on these.

    Broadway on 17th | 154m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

Looks good, but the brick colours are a bit cold and the base doesnt seem inviting enough. Its so monotone on the tower portions that something to warm up the base would help. I would suggest that the beige brick sections go to Sea Gray 6 (Interstate Brick) from I-XL. The charcoal brick would...
