    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Sorry if this was already talked about, but does anything know if there is something happening at the old Mill St Brewhouse pub building? It looks like someone is installing some nightclub style nights on the east side (inside) and I have seen people actively working inside as well.

LOL if I saw that last photo as a streetview on geoguessr, I'm hammering Russia. Looking like commie block central.

    Kings by LaCaille | 113m | 35s | LaCaille Group | S2

Oh my god. BARFFFFFFF. I didn't notice this when I drove by today. Fortunately the downtown skyline doesn't need a ton of help AND this will be hidden well I think. Podium needs to be nice though.

    Broadway on 17th | 156m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

This is absolutely true. The south edge of Beltline is more walkable than anywhere in Toronto I swear. I got my doctor & dentist, grocery, barber, gym, liquor, clothing stores, best buy, crappy tire and of course my downtown office all within 18 mins of my apartment! And to everyone else, I was...

Can we lock this thread so that we can stop giving everyone false hope? No more posts until the garage is atleast 1 level deep.

    Broadway on 17th | 156m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

I like 17th Ave... but there are probably 10 streets in each of Montreal and Toronto that are equivalent or better in their entertainment, walkability etc... I think the retail condo investment scheme has kind of had it's time, but that doesn't mean that homeowners aren't looking for places and...

    Broadway on 17th | 156m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

Yup. Toronto investors are freaking out, Calgary home buyers are flush with options and the downtown rental supply has a multi year pipeline of completions. It’s surprising to me that Beltline Block is going ahead right now.

    Broadway on 17th | 156m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

Are people actually buying these places? Does anyone have any intel? It'll be a nice place to live but it just feels like a terrible time for this.

Great photo there. I always assumed Calgary tore down a bunch of nice old downtown neighbourhoods but it looks like the downtown core was quite small when high quality, pretty and walkable streets were the norm. Also cool to see the lack of access to beltline.

    Village Block | 27m | 6s | Liberty Housing | Metafor

Looks good. It gives me a St Petes Beach Florida vibe for some reason.

    Bluestone | 78m | 18s | Amble Ventures | NORR

Is there any reason we can’t build real street wall? 12th ave has nice height along the street and will probably grow in to being tall eventually, why are we building what looks like it belongs in Kamloops?

    Fairmont Hotel | ?m | ?s | Truman

Would hope they keep the Singapore Sams in the lobby of the Fairmont so I can come in at 2:20 AM after the bars close and crush some ginger beef! Open air concept right next to the check in would be great, similar to Hawthorn in the Palliser. Guests would love it.

    Dominion Centre | 44m | 11s | Alston Properties | ATLRG

Not a huge building and the rents are affordable... I applaud Alston on this gym. I lived briefly in First & Park in Eau Claire and the gym wasn't half of this. This would be massive selling feature for me.

    Francesco's | 48m | 16s | Arlington Street | DAAS

I walked by this today and noticed that in the right light, it looks like that black cladding has some sort of sweet sugary stuff poured all over it. Is there usually a film on it that they remove once it's all installed?

    Banff Visitor Center Redevelopment

#2 for me. It feels like a Parks building already and I don't know why. I like #1 as well and while #3 is cool, that area is not very big and I'm not sure the buildings will feel grand enough.

    The Broward | 19m | 6s | Truman | MoDA

Yup. Show suite in the Truman building I toured was painted grey and purple. Actual units all white.

    The Broward | 19m | 6s | Truman | MoDA

They have a promotional video on the project website that shows it as a Starbucks and they refer to it as "the ground floor coffee shop". If it is a coffee shop, it'll be nice in the summer with the bike lanes on both streets.

    Kings by LaCaille | 113m | 35s | LaCaille Group | S2

I walked by this the other day, and what they are building at street level feels big and inviting, but the render makes it look a bit closed off, grey and cheap. Hopefully a colourful and bright interior shines through the glass and they choose the right overhead lighting and landscaping. I'm...

    Sovereign | 40.54m | 14s | Avi Urban | GEC

This one feels like they took a somewhat undesirable material in those metal panels and did the most they could with it, and the full height windows help to keep the design. It's not a few random panel and window placements, it's tons of variation that for lack of better terms, almost makes the...

    The Broward | 19m | 6s | Truman | MoDA

I love this one, especially the side that faces 2nd St, and that bright retail unit makes this corner feel much more alive. Does anyone know what kind of tenant is going in there?
