I am a bit curious about your comment regarding sole sourced design work.. as a private development i don't understand the frustration. I might be wrong but is this not typical? Public projects of course have a request for proposal process, but private endeavours...

Agreed. It's pretty sterile without tenants, so i'm hoping some window displays of something will bring some life to the project. Otherwise an interesting switch from next door's opus building.

I don't disagree with the scale, but i can't get excited as this is essentially a massing envelope. Is there an architect signed on?

    I stand corrected :)

Awesome to get Calgary architects on the world stage!

I prefer the concrete area that slims the crossing to the pork chop design before, but agree it needs some love.

The podium is a complete urban design fail. I could care less about the tower. If this was the project that would help revitalize the pedestrian wasteland that west downtown is, then i have little hope. Unfortunate...

Open to pedestrians (the public), but the rear lane will dead end on 4th street so they can put in some higher quality surfacing that would interface the second tower

Yes, like a globe & mail feature. It's one of the coolest projects going on and we need more. Happy to hear they are approaching this with a quality perspective.

As per tonight's placemaking forum re: public space activation FOOD is the key :)

Agreed. Simple in its execution and high-quality. In terms of mid-rise this blows away say... Arlington's Windsor.

I love how the building form turned out. I'm undecided on the material choice for now. I want to give it a chance....hopefully signage and occupation liven it up

Tower and podium are looking good, however, I'm most interested to see the breezeway delivery. They purchased and closed the lane under the rationale of alley way activation (FAR for reals). Proof will be in the execution, so high hopes!

Yep. Waves could have continued to bring life to that corner for what I expect to be several years based on Arlington's track record.

Happy to hear! I love this outcome. It's a great looking lane with the glazing and activation at the rear. I truly wish more developments would maximize their floor plates in the same way. Inglewood is rocking

You're both right. There's a significant grade change and there is parking in the rear at the second level behind office uses.

I wish this project received better coverage -- its what downtown needs and what other B and C class operator/owners should be looking to for inspiration. Kudos to Strategic for lateral moves. Cube in the beltline, while not my cup of tea on the exterior, is a great project too!

Beauty! We need more heritage retrofits like this in the warehouse district!

True -- but as a born and bred Edmontonian nothing quite disconnects like a massive river valley chasm. Since living in Calgary for the past ten years I love how this City's little urban villages are relatively accessible by comparison.
