I noticed tonight the little white strips you see on the sw corner where beside the windows (the brown paneling is) was lit up. Looked alright.

    Taxation and Density in Calgary

It makes more sense to increase density in UPR, but I have no problem leaving it as it is. It’s not a huge area of the city and we still have 100’s of parking lots around huge inner city that can be developed. It’s nice for a city to have a few grand old mansion neighborhoods. The taxes paid by...

University Innovation Quarter | ?m | ?s | University of Calgary Properties Group

That’s the way I would describe it as well. I’m surprised the city hasn’t been more aggressive about developing the parking lots. They’re such a waste of important transit adjacent land.

    Stephen Avenue Quarter | 241m | 66s | Triovest | Gibbs Gage

I dunno, even though there’s a population boom it doesn’t seem to be translating into jobs in the oil industry, and thus not driving growth in downtown office jobs. I could be wrong though. I haven’t seen any recent numbers for office space vacancy.

    Statscan numbers

All I can say is ouch for Ontario, this is brutal. It seems the exorbitant cost of housing has really hit hard. Not only that, I read that the largest demographic of people leaving is the 20 to 29 age group.

    Statscan numbers

That’s exactly what I was going to say. International immigration tends to be pretty steady, and, like you say it’s kind of a given, whereas interprovincial migration gains kind of feel like a coup. It’s like the mobile phone market, it’s a given that there will be a certain amount of phones...

I drive up over the 4th flyover the other day and it looks cool seeing a building there.

    Calgary International Airport

Great to see YYC bouncing back and headed for even more international traffic. I think it’s fair to say that Canada’s big four airports is where the action is going to be in the future. It’s a trend that’s been happening for some time now. Winnipeg, Halifax, and Ottawa have flatlined for the...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

There is a small glimmer of shininess, but I was hoping for something like the Studio Bell

I’m all for seeing Crowchild access go away, if can’t happen add a couple more lights to 33rd, as well as a couple more crosswalk lights. Adding more lights and pedestrian crosswalks with lights might be even the better way to go as people going to Marta Loop as a destination could at least get...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I don’t recall the UCP under Kenny doing anything differently than the NDP did under Notley. There has been a steady stream of non-O&G business coming to Calgary, but can any of that be attributed to the UCP? With respect to the O&G industry bouncing back, it had zero to do with the UCP. Not...

I'm not surprised how slow it's going compared to Argyle. Remember how fast the Lumino towers went up. 🐢

I voted for great. I wold like to see hundreds of these built around the city.

    Trees in Calgary

The east side of the city has poorer soil, so it’s not surprising there are less trees. Still it wouldn’t hurt the city to plant a few more on the east side.

    EV606 | 22m | 6s | Alston Properties | ATLRG

Great news for this and the Minto project. Now if we can only get done development on one of those empty parking lots in the heart of EV.

IMO this is turning out better than the rendering. The only thing I don’t like is the roof trim, or lack of it.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Exactly. The big beer producers like Molsons and Labatts are going the way of the dinosaur. The only way they can remain relevant is to buy smaller craft breweries.
