The sarcasm and wit from you and DiscoStu are one of the reasons I come to the site lol. Also the pretty pics from folks like Alexyyc, UW, 1875, SP and the others. Also the in depth info from folks like Darwink Bye bye baby and CBarnet. Also the new proposals that pop up from Michael S...

    1st Ave NE Shoppers | 12m | 2s | First Capital | Collabor8

Even with this being on the sterile side, I like it better than what was there before. The street frontage will be much better.

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

This is my line of thinking as well. I don’t think arena is in convention centers, etc. ever draw vibrancy except for the narrow timeslots during events. Having people living in the area would certainly help as would help keep the retail busy when events aren’t happening. Even that only goes so...

    Calgary's Downtown Dilemma

It’s because your list offered only one idea, an idea which we already know doesn’t fully work for everyone. I also don’t think Surrealplaces’ list offers cruelty any more than already exists. He suggesting longer jail terms for repeat or violent offenders. That’s cruel? He’s suggesting...

    Calgary International Airport

Great numbers for YYC, although I have to say I’m surprised that transporter traffic is still up even if it’s only 1.5% Is this because WestJet has canceled some transporter flight and other cities like Winnipeg or Edmonton, etc. And are now routing those people through Calgary?

    Calgary International Airport

The distance related to altitude makes sense, but I would say demand should easily be there, especially to India. If you look at the South Asian population across the prairie‘s and the area where WestJet dominates service it’s quite a large population. I bet if WestJet had an A350 they would...

    Kit at Kensington | 50m | 15s | Jemm Properties | LOLA

I would say one more floor and it’ll be the tallest in Kensington.

    US Politics

Don’t take a chance on a candidate like Whitmer. If the democratics don’t get back in next election, things will get progressively worse.

    Calgary International Airport

I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least one new route to China, either Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong

    The Broward | 19m | 6s | Truman | MoDA

White panels aside, it looks good overall. It’s nice the way the facades are broken up, I wish we had more of that in these 6 storey builds. Nice job MODA.

    Eau Claire West | 109.11m | 33s | QuadReal | NORR

I think it’s a good concept. A few towers right in the core of downtown works.

    Kensington Manor | 34m | 9s | Amble Ventures | NORR

So happy to see this moving forward, even though the building design isn’t anything special it’s gonna be nice to have that streetscape filled in.

    Varsity Mixed Use | 25.91m | 6s | City of Calgary | MBAC

It’s close to university District, but outside of that there’s nothing urban about the area. I’m mostly referring to 32nd ave in general, not being an urban feeling street in any way, I mean there isn’t even a continuous sidewalk on both sides of the avenue. I agree with CB Barnett about the...

    Varsity Mixed Use | 25.91m | 6s | City of Calgary | MBAC

The parking lot is bigger than it needs to be. They could’ve made the building 60 units with 44 parking spaces instead of the reverse. Outside of that, it fits the bill for what you could expect for that type of location. Maybe they could’ve done better with the corner facing 32nd Ave. but...

I saw them there also. It looked like they were fixing the fence.

Population growth will slow and residential high-rise construction will slow, but that doesn’t mean we’re never going to see a high-rise building built again. With the city’s incentive program for downtown residential construction, this has a better chance than some of the others.

    Calgary's Residential Highrise Boom 2000 - 2025 and Beyond

Incredible rundown! I knew we had built a fair amount of high rises in the last 20 years, but I didn’t realize it was huge. Transformative indeed. Would be interesting to compare aerial shots from the mid 90s to today.
