    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I really hope those renderings are of a very early feasibility level design. It looks very boring right now and while I know cspace doesn't have oodles of money, this site and program is asking for something pretty spectacular

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Not sure if this was been seen before now, but cSPACE has shown off some renderings of their downtown space. https://livewirecalgary.com/2025/05/22/cspace-moving-into-growth-phase-with-new-developments-on-the-horizon/ The article mentions offhand the creation of a "new building next to bow...

Oooo. Ryoku is pricey but quite good

    Springbank Hill | ?m | ?s | Multiple Projects

It's really that simple. Probably cheaper and easier to build too. I just don't get it.

well, it's not offensively bad at least. Guess the whole neighbourhood is gonna be mid

    Springbank Hill | ?m | ?s | Multiple Projects

I just don't understand what the issue is with making materials consistent. Why does everything need to be so convoluted with random rectangles and jogs and splotches of crap. Like come on, these buildings would be totally passable if it wasn't for that

    Trail 31 | 13m | 3s | Eagle Crest | FAAS Architecture

This has gotta be the worst downgrade from a render I've seen in a while. This is BAD

And none of them are forming around existing transit 🙄. Classic Calgary

    Copenhagen | 35m | 10s | Copenhagen | Casola Koppe

From what I understand, not a lot. I think they need to have some semblance of a written down rule somewhere to cite when pushing against a design choice (can't just be "I don't like it, change it"), and unfortunately "don't make it look like shit" is not a rule that is written down anywhere afaik

It's not even that hard to make a building without windows look good. Truly pathetic effort by everyone involved

    Nest | 40.23m | 15s | Cairo Development | Casola Koppe

Are you talking about the windows on the side? That is almost certainly because of limits on the size of openings you can have on walls facing another property. It's a fire code thing. And won't be a big deal if and when more tall stuff gets built next to this Edit: nevermind, I see it faces a...

Sounds like a good use for a retrofitted Saddledome. Absolutely ridiculous that everyone seems to have concluded that demolishing it is a foregone conclusion. Makes me sick

Absolutely ridiculous how the media sensationalizes this stuff and gives whiny NIMBYS unfiltered airtime.

    11th Street Underpass | ?m | ?s | City of Calgary

The flat out refusal to even begin to entertain the idea doing things differently, as evidenced by the attitudes being expressed here is stifling this city. Both options, open or closed to cars is fine. But people seriously need to have an ounce of imagination and ambition. It's what this city...

    11th Street Underpass | ?m | ?s | City of Calgary

Give me a break. Quit it with that defeatist attitude. "you can build all the transit you want, Calgarians will still drive" is flat out wrong. People will use whatever mode is easiest, fastest, and safest. Catering exclusively to cars in infrastructure planning damages every other mode on all...

    1st St Chinatown Tower Development | ?m | 28s | El Condor Lands | Perkins + Will

He'd probably like that. I wouldn't be surprised if the developer is slowly building up momentum and then they're hoping to try and get started again as soon as Wong is (hopefully) out in October. Can't see why they would bother trying again with him in charge.

I was about to bring out the pitchforks on you for bumping this thread but this does seem newsworthy. I don't want to get my hopes up though.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

That's really the core of our nimby problem I think. People think there are zero consequences to blocking development and they have everything to lose by letting it happen. There needs to be a more direct link (practically and psychologically) between development and service improvements.
