I doubt that site sits empty for long. Seems too valuable/lucrative of a corner to leave untouched and not generating revenue. Design the right building (and position it as an anchor for east 17th) there and people start migrating there/further east down 17th for sure.

As someone who works in the design industry, has previously worked in the construction industry, and volunteers on a municipal LAP... NIMBYers are literally the bane of my existence. There are so, so many angry, anti-change, armchair architects and builders in this city you could build thirteen...

Just curious - what's your opinion of MSG then? From that perspective, is that arena a failure?

I'm probably in the minority here, but I always loved the West Village as the location for an arena / fieldhouse. Perfect anchor for that location, IMO. Accessible in all four directions, including the river path.

I am a member of the Westbrook LAP Committee and have been for three years, which was made up of 30+ community members, and I'm not sure how some can say no communication about this LAP took place. Given the amount of active communication the City did with signage, emails, websites, community...

Got an adrenaline rush there, Populous is my fave design firm! Maybe the stars align and they get back in on this project one day, haha.

As a side note, I just love that three-storey building next door where Killian used to be; when I lived in the area as a kid, it was just as cool then. Its recent modernization was really well done IMO. Now I miss Killian, lol.
