    Office Space Conversion

Completely agree. Personally I hope they don't knee jerk to making them 2-ways; I think you can achieve the best of all worlds with tightened up 1-ways. There are a whole bunch of key elements at play here that we know will be changing significantly sooner or later. The Bowforth Park redesign...

    Stampede Hotel | 57.5m | 14s | Truman | NORR

Global Petroleum Show uses the parking lots. Those rotary girders don't showcase themselves. Also events like Cirque du Soleil. In the long run it could certainly better than a sea of asphalt, but it would be better to transform Railtown/bus barns and West Village before worrying too much...

    Calgary Transit

This is a bit of a random, but does anyone else think TOD/TOC is a poor term? It feels too prescriptive and unimaginable for the Average Joe who can barely fathom the idea of riding transit once, nevermind orienting your life towards it. Something like 'Reduced Driving Development' would be a...

    Weather and Gardening Discussion

I think the above 0 streak is still alive. On the 18th YYC Int'l A got up to 0.4C at 3pm, and Nov. 14th was above 0 from midnight to 4am. Mon/Tue/Wed all calling for a high of -1C next week, but who knows, maybe we squeak by!

    Calgary Transit Fantasy Maps

I like the notion, but I'd shrink it a bit and skirt Stampede (not sure how else it would work in 10 day). 1 way clockwise bus loop. Dots not on corners are stops (most already existing), for 10 9 total over 6 kms. The left turn is a 1-way to 1-way - you'd have to move that stop two blocks...

    Calgary Transit

Maybe some day, but there is still a ton of better TOD to work through (including the massive P&R lots on the other side of the tracks at Anderson

17th definitely runs from at least 4th-14th (1600m), but I'd even say its 2nd-15th for a full 2km (long blocks) Broadcast Ave could be a little under 800m. Same as Centre St from 8th-16th. If you allow an L shape then Kensington Rd-10 St NW is about 1km. 9 Ave in Inglewood is 800-1000m. You...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

A number of challenges with that - primarily that it would deliver those northerners to Grand Central Station where they'd still need to transfer to the green line to get to DT anyways. Might as well keep the direct connection throughout Centre St

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I think some UK cities have systems for this, and you even get a part of the 'bounty' for submitting it. I think we should do the same for the roads in general - if police aren't going to enforce things on the road anymore, maybe we could at least have one in an office reviewing dashcam footage...

    Weather and Gardening Discussion

Does the fact that we were above freezing from midnight-3am keep the record going? Because it doesn't look like we're getting back over 0 today.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Depends on what's counted...there was definitely a big push to email your councillor in the lead up to the vote, and I don't think those would be counted in the 6100. I bet there were a lot of people like me who sent a supportive email to their councillor but did not make a formal submission...

Something I noticed today while cruising through Radio Park is that they've built quite a few nice rooftop patios nearby. Seems like most places with a view of Radio Park have one. I think it'll really add to the vibes in the summer

    Calgary's Downtown Dilemma

You make a lot of good points here, but using per capita probably makes it look a little worse than it is. Applying this data to 2016 population figures (city proper, not metro) it works out to around 600 in Edmonton and a little under 400 in Calgary (actually there's a graph in the article that...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Well if re-zoning failed to fix everything in 10 months then its obviously a failure and needs to go. Time to out YIMBY the NIMBYs. Funny how they didn't ascribe support/opposition to the 6100 written submissions.

    Office Space Conversion

https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/office-housing-conversion-project-add-afforable-units-downtown-calgary Does anyone have insight to how the revenue side of these works? These 204 units work out to a little over $400k each. Which is tough to square when you consider there is no cost...

    Calgary Transit

https://livewirecalgary.com/2025/11/12/tire-swap-calgary-transit-switching-to-all-weather-wheels-to-aid-in-winter-driving/ I'm curious how much the wear rate will differ, especially with longer and hotter summers. Delivering more reliability in the worst times is probably worth the extra costs...

    Spruce Cliff Apartments | 19.8m | 6s | Porte | Casola Koppe

I wonder if something may also happen on the other side of 37th from this...IIRC the strip mall beside the Shell station has been fenced up for a little while. Great location...except the gas stations on either side and Mr. Lube across the street!

    Calgary's Downtown Dilemma

Because then those guys will just go commit more crimes to buy more drugs and steal more tents. It's all futile. The DI area is always gonna be pretty rough, but if they aren't really bothering anyone then its not the worst thing to let them be.

    City Parks, Rivers, and Wildlife

I completely agree. But this saga has been going on since 2016 with way too much closure time. I'd rather have a more boring official trail that actually stays open...and then hopefully locals can cut a spicier unofficial trail

    City Parks, Rivers, and Wildlife

The problem is that part is facilitated by artificial aides that aren't holding up well enough. But the very precise nature of the problem isn't even totally clear to me - I think it's that this bridge gets very quickly compromised due to erosion? I'm not sure if there are other trouble spots...
