    Weather and Gardening Discussion

There’s definitely some kind of heat island effect for Calgary. Innercity neighborhoods, always get flowers and greenery sooner than the neighborhoods on outskirts. Is the heat island effect, affecting the air temperature or is it more affecting the soil? I don’t know, but it’s there.

Agree. I’d be totally fine with one of these in the inner city somewhere.

The tax system needs tweaking for sure. I mean, I am all for density, but I kind of see people’s point when it comes to taxes. We’re building infills all around the inner city in order to keep taxes low for single-family home owners out in the burbs.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I I don’t recall a red line spur ever discussed as an option. It would make sense in a lot of ways, but I don’t think the 7th ave capacity is there.

Myself, I’m against the idea of the Nose Creek alignment. It might be cheaper than the centre street alignment, but as a city we’re at a point where we need to do things the best way not the cheapest way. The best way is putting the line where the people are.

Interesting read why the Nose Creek option was dropped. https://livewirecalgary.com/2024/09/12/rewind-why-the-nose-creek-transit-alignment-was-kicked-to-the-curb-more-than-a-decade-ago/

I’m surprised this wouldn’t is idle, with a bank as a client I would expect it to move along quickly. If I had to guess I would say they’re waiting for the construction on 33rd to be done before finishing.

I’m waiting for all the tarps to be pulled, but from what I’ve seen so far, it’ll be better than the rendering.

If we were serious about cycling infrastructure we would have an EW cycle lane every 3 blocks at least. Having one at 12th and truncated lanes on 3rd, and 8th isn’t good enough

If you want examples of real modern Chinese style buildings check out the ones in China. Nobody said the style was ‘modern’ Chinese. Modern Chinese styled buildings look like any other modern buildings from anywhere else in the world.

Looks okay, the red trim gives it Chinese/Asian look without being kitchy. TBH, I was expecting worse.

    Statscan numbers

Calgary even with downturns here and there has been steady over all. It blew past Edmonton during the Klein years when privatization of services benefited Calgary, plus numerous relocation of head offices to Calgary. Calgary then blew past Ottawa when Ottawa’s high tech petered out. Edmonton...

Judging by the numbers, they had a few larger apartment developments startup in June. August numbers will show if June was only an aberration for Montreal or if July was an aberration.
