Whatever they do there, it better not be a one story plaza like the one to the west of it.

    Calgary's Downtown Dilemma

How do we create enough demand for downtown residential? I honestly don’t think we’ll ever see any conversions unless we subsidize them. For the record, I’m talking about a one time round of funding subsidization to kickstart. Put the subsidies out there now with the caveat that it’s a one time...

    11th + 11th | 138.07m | 44s | Intergulf | Ramsay Worden

It might be a while, but, the CRUs in 11th and 11th will have a better chance of filling up than the ones in Nuera or at West Village Towers.

I had no idea they were open, literally every time I go by there it’s closed.

Not much progress since the first update from a year ago, but at least there’s some progress. Also I forgot to welcome you to the forum @badc0ffee

Triple Os is good. I stop at the one in Cranbrook every time I go through there.

    Infill Development Discussion

Are you referring to assessed value from a property tax point of view? Or for how much it would cost for a developer to buy that land? If we’re doing say a 20 story building with 160 units that would easily generate more property tax, and what they’re paying. Unless businesses pay a higher rate...

Seven years since the first post, probably makes it the longest running project we have.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I don’t think the rendering shows the true scale of what the sidewalks will be, there’s barely enough room for a wheelchair to use them. They’ll probably be four or 5 inches wider than what is shown in the rendering..

Even if they did that for Stephen Avenue, it would be nice for the tourists.

    Calgary Flames Official Thread

How are we feeling about the Flames making the playoffs? When they beat Seattle, I was thinking 65 to 70% chance but now I’m thinking it’s 50-50 maybe not even.

I’m glad to see the Business association supports it. It should offset opposition from some of the residents.

It’s not the most exciting design, but serves a good purpose.

Agreed that 33rd is a destination and I’m sure some of the retail customers come in from Crowchild. If not cutting off crow child access altogether maybe they’re still need to be better traffic light control or something. Right now it’s kind of a mess with all those cars from Crowchild.

    Calgary's Homeless

It would have to be an industrial area to avoid nimby opposition, but what’s actually stopping at from being in an industrial area? What are these core services that the people require, besides the Chumir’s safe injection site? Moving the safe injection site to a location right next to the drop...

I would love to see Crowchild’s access to 33rd cut off. It’s not ever going to happen in car centric Calgary, but we can dream.

Resisting the push to Calgary’s suburbia

The article also indirectly highlights the issue that was discussed in the taxation discussion. A house in Rundle is much cheaper per square foot than a house of the same size in the core. A lot of that is due to location but part of it is due to taxes. When you pay more for taxes on your 2...

They should just ask permission to use the photos here. They’d be up to date.

    Taxation and Density in Calgary

I’m sorry, but I don’t buy that. Rich people will always have their houses somewhere and middle-class neighbourhoods like Glamorgan or Rundle will always exist as well. Calgary‘s problem is they haven’t been taxing some of those inefficient middle class neighbourhoods well enough in my opinion...
