    Cars, Pedestrians, Cyclists and Transit

I get your point about needing to better accommodate pedestrians and cyclists, and I agree, 100%. I really do, but hyperbole about cars destroying everybody’s lives and the world isn’t the way to go. People weren’t any happier in the 1800s when they didn’t have cars. Yes, cars are a big part of...

    Cars, Pedestrians, Cyclists and Transit

I don’t think anyone is suggesting we put children’s safety at risk by having cars use 11th street. Cars have been using 11th St. for decades, all we are doing is continuing that while adding better support for pedestrians and cyclists at the same time. I know we all would love to see a society...

    Mosaic Village | 16m | 4s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

This is the second proposal to change recently from apartment style to row homes. Is it because if costs due to u/g parking? I would have thought the other style would be more efficient cost wise.

    Calgary Flames Official Thread

I gotta say, I am loving the Oilers season so far. I know it’s early, and they’ll probably bounce back, but to see them at third from the bottom in the league as nice. Lol

    Statscan numbers

Welcome to the forum @Albertasaurus. I find Vancouver’s density is interesting. Outside of the downtown core and West Broadway area around False Creek, the density in Vancouver is very much piles of single-family homes with nodes of high-rises scattered in different areas, whereas Montreal‘s...

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

I wouldn’t call the Vancouver one a well designed convention center. Outside of that tiny patio, there’s little difference from the BMO centre. In many ways, I like the BMO centre better than the Vancouver convention centre. I don’t know why everybody is in a huff about retail at the BMO center...

    Statscan numbers

I don’t care if the numbers from Statscan are delayed a month or two. For me the most interesting part of the numbers is how Calgary compares with the other cities, and which types of dwellings are being built. By the way, great to see Calgary being a solid third for housing starts this year.

I like it. Mostly conceptual right now, but I like the general plan.

    ARC 33 | 22m | 6s | RNDSQR | S2

Sad, but not surprising. RNDSQR bit off more than they could chew and have gone back to what was successful for them. I hope this doesn’t sit for long at a prime location for development.

    Carbon Tax: good or bad?

IMO the carbon tax is bad because it’s not accomplishing anything. I would be on board with a carbon tax if all of the proceeds went to green energy or transit, or some other initiative that truly helped battle carbon emissions. Not only that, but carbon emissions are a world problem, unless...

    SAIT Campus Centre | 24m | 5s | SAIT | GEC

Way cooler than the old building.

    Francesco's | 48m | 16s | Arlington Street | DAAS

70 story high-rises would be great, but on 17th? IMO low rises are a better fit for 17th. I’ll gladly take a 70 story tower on 10th or 11th Ave. though.

    Office Space Conversion

That’s the one single thing I like about it. I wish there was another way to encourage development or conversions downtown without having to use taxpayer funded money.

    Calgary Transit

I was in Vancouver back in May and also noticed the more frequently schedule on the sky train. I have to admit it’s nice arrive at a station and know that if you miss the train another one will be along shortly. Maybe for the city could experiment by having single or dual car trains, but more...

    Kensington Mixed Use | 20m | 6s | Westrich Pacific | J+S Architect

There are a couple that started even before pixel, if I’m remembering my dates correctly. There is the one on the south east corner of fifth Avenue and 14th St., and there was Ven as well. If memory serves me correctly, van was finishing up around the time pixel was starting.

    Calgary International Airport

Two things. 1) Calgary not having Banff wouldn’t help Winnipeg’s numbers. Edmonton doesn’t have a Banff and is also cursed with having Calgary 3 hours away by car, yet still handles twice as many passengers as YWG. 2) AC scaling back at YYC will have very little if any affect at all on Winnipeg...

Does anyone know what’s happening with this? There’s been no change for a while.

Maybe they saw Surreal’s post and they went back to the drawing board https://calgary.skyrisecities.com/forum/threads/calgary-glenbow-museum-43m-9s-dialog.33333/page-9#post-1940823

    Kincora Towers | 49m | 16s | Rockport Group | S2

The density is good, but it feels like density for the sake of density, or even more like a developer wanting to plant 324 units in the middle of nowhere. I’d rather this was being built in West District or U/D where the area is better laid out, or the Brentwood LRT parking lot. Aside from that...

    The Sentinel | 24m | 6s | Arlington Street | Jackson McCormick

It’s very unexciting. I would’ve liked something more Beltline, and less suburban but I won’t lose any sleep over it.
