    61st Ave Residential | 64m | 19s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

Comparing the empty lots around Chinook to Brentwood station in Burnaby isn’t really an apples to apples comparison. The situation here in Calgary is different than Metro Vancouver. Land is much more expensive in Vancouver/Burnaby, and the layout of their neighbourhoods and zoning in cities like...

    61st Ave Residential | 64m | 19s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

I don’t disagree that as a city or as a community we still need to push for better designs, but there’s a point where you have to be realistic. Those lots have been wastelands for over 50 years, so for me any development is a positive. I’d rather see this get built, than have it sit as a...

    61st Ave Residential | 64m | 19s | Cadillac Fairview | Zeidler

It would take a lot more than a few tweaks to turn the area into a Griffintown or even lead it in that direction. You’d need a cohesive plan with one entity controlling the development like U/D, EV, West District etc.. It would be great if it was nicer, but we’re not in a position to be choosy.

    General Construction Updates

Nothing in place to replace it yet. IIRC Harvard sold the land back to the city, and until there is a solid plan for the green line it might sit for a while.

Even 25 of these would make a noticeable difference if placed in strategic areas.

    Hanover Building Conversion | 98m | 26s | Cairo Development | NORR

Yeah, there's been activity for a while. I had no idea it was a residential conversion.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

There has been major activity in this field with the Amazon data centre announced, expansion of data hive as posted earlier in the thread, and now this one. Calgary must be right up there ad a data centre hub. Maybe the Data centre capital of Western Canada?

We can also add Aeropark to the list 😃 There is also one in Bridgeland that somebody updated the other day, but I don’t remember the name of it.

I heard something on the radio (660 news radio) this morning, and they said in 2020 about 40% of people in Canada between 18 and 34 owned a home, but it now it’s only around %25 - I might have those numbers wrong. If that’s the case, homeownership was somewhat attainable for young people when...

    Colonialism and design choices discussion

Maybe the mods can make a thread about colonialism and such and the discussion can move there?

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

Urb didn’t reply, so 50+ floors it is!

East Village: Success or a long ways away yet?

I’ve heard the same thing about CMLC from various people. At the end of the day though, the homeless issue is the reason it’s stalled out.

    Project 54 | 43m | 12s | Cidex Group | NORR

If the panels are a brand like Alucobond, the red should stay red. Fingers crossed! As for the design. It’s nothing to write home about, but it’s not terrible. Overall, it’ll be a good addition to downtown.

    Statscan numbers

Send it like it’s hot 👍 lol On a serious note, Edmonton was bigger than Calgary for almost the entire 20th century, so probably some other older people who still think of Edmonton as the larger metro. Until recently my grandfather who’s 96 thought Montreal was Canada’s largest city.

    That option works for me.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I don’t see the the Nose Hill route as having the same characteristics as the other lines. All of the other lines, with the exception of the Red line’s Erlton to Chinook, pass through areas populated with businesses, people, schools, malls etc. As far as I can tell the Nose Creek route wouldn’t...

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

It would be a mistake is because using Nose Creek turns the north leg into more of a commuter/go train type system. Nobody would be able to walk to the stations. They’d have to drive to them or take buses to them. I don’t believe travel time will be a problem. If it’s a street car running 50 km...

50 cents change back from ‘services rendered’? Lol

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

It’s true, there wasn’t much consideration on the cost, but IMO building the line through the Nose Creek Valley would be a huge mistake. Better to pay extra money now and have it done properly, building it where the people are.
