They could do the first commercial to residential conversion of an empty office building outside of downtown 😛

Good idea in theory. But the vending machines would get vandalized within 24hrs of opening. We no longer live in a high trust society. I also feel sorry for the people that will have to work at the convivence store.

I think moving the station farther east would be a better option. The future 'mean center of population' of Aspen Springs is closer to the east and a pedestrian crossing at 17th Ave would connect to the shopping area very nicely. The city needs to start planning this station and access points...

I think the city should start planning for a blue line extension to West District. Slowly do land acquisition and utility relocation. Eventually LRT to West District will be required. In the short term(5-10years) I think a 1km extension of the blue line to Aspen Village would greatly increase...

Say what you will about Mao Zedong, but he cleaned up China's opium problem very nicely. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_drug_trade_in_China#:~:text=The%20Mao%20Zedong%20government%20is,were%20planted%20with%20new%20crops.

Probably not that easy as you'd have to swing the train around back to 52nd street. Kind of makes for a weird detour and the city has to buy back a bunch of land for a right of way. It's probably easier to have the future MAX Brown terminus at the roundabout at 210th Ave than it is to have the...

Yikes. I used to live close to that area. The last thing that intersection needs is a McDonald's.

I noticed that the dedicated bus turn on 5th Ave and Centre street is removed. Does anyone know why the city removed it?

About time. With an unemployment rate of 7.1% I don't think importing more cheap labour is going to benefit the average Joe. Big businesses will probably cry about it.

Calgary public disorder & safety thread.

It's noticeably worse. Last Friday night, I walking with my gf and some friends on 17th and some homeless people were posted up on the sidewalk in right in front of Ship&Anchor. They were sitting on cardboard boxes, had sheets strung up and were smoking out of a glass pipe. I've never seen open...

Yeah. I'm really interest to see how it will function once the 15th Ave cycle track opens up.

Once the 15th Ave and 8th Street cycle tracks are complete. I'd like the city to implement the following: 1. Turn 5th street into a one-way street and extend the cycle track to the Elbow River 2. Construct a Cycle Track on 1st Street from the Bow River to the Elbow River: 3. Construct a...

It's kind of funny that since the West LRT opened 13 years ago, everything within the red outline has been effectively a No-Development zone. Yet, outside the red outline there has been several re-developments of under used properties.

Even adding bus only lanes on 5th, 6th and 9th Ave. would do wonders for traffic management. It would be nice if the city made significant streetscape improvements to the sidewalks in DT, but I get the impression that there are a ton of utilities under the sidewalk which would make it challenging.

How do you know that? You live in Marda Loop and drive to the University every day. You're completely removed from the reality of the homeless crisis. You don't live and work in the Beltline. You don't have to walk by a machete wielding shirtless man practicing Tai-Chi and yelling at the top of...

That's a great idea! In fact, before the 1980's there used to be such facilities. Unfortunately, our society can't enforce vagrancy laws or use force to gather people up and get them help as it would hurt people's feelings and infringe on their charter of rights. As a result, our society ends...

Looks like the plan is to build a busway adjacent to Market Street where the future Greenline is going to go. I assume they have to demolish the busway to install the tracks for the Greenline? If that's the case, it sounds like kind of a waste of resources. It's probably better to just terminate...

I wouldn't say momentum have stalled. I would be nice to see more cycling projects go ahead, but 15th Ave. is getting cycle tracks this year, there have been many pathway improvements throughout the city and cycling improvements are on the books for large parts of Forest Lawn and the NE.
