    Balmoral Mixed Use | 25m | 12s | o2 Planning and Design

IMO, I prefer the tower. A tall block long midrise may create massing issues. Plus, if there are two more towers planned by JEMM, I wouldn't want to see only 2 towers stuck up. That would look a bit awkward. Might as well start creating a little high-rise node.

    General Construction Updates

Agreed, lived in the area for a large chunk of my life. It's just congested in the wrong way. Not very pedestrian friendly at all.

An LRT extension to 85th Street is maybe the only suburb LRT expansion I would fully support. Density like that needs to be rewarded. Also it's not too far from the core in comparison to something like Seton (In terms of Km).

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

With East Village still struggling to redevelop those parking lots, I doubt we'll see any towers in Victoria Park for a bit and I'm fine with that. I'd like to see those EV parking lots go first.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I can't believe people still use the climate argument against density. I guess all the people walking and biking outside during the winter in cities like Moscow, Toronto, Montreal, etc. are just robots? If anything, our harsh winter climate should've forced us to build more compact. All the...

Im impatently waiting as well. EV has huge potential to become a gold standard for not only great urban design but a vibrant hub, once fully built out. Who knows what's going on with CMLC and their delayed land deals.

The chunky massing, coupled with a 1 storey podium, is definitely throwing me off as well. On the other hand, I'm really happy that they decided to have retail along 17th ave.

    General Construction Updates

I’d disagree here with the market aspect. Even if we had a million dollar avg home price in Calgary, I don’t think it would change our TOD designs or layout of all these suburban looking developments. From what I see, it really comes down to the culture of our city. Council needs to implement...

    General Construction Updates

Agreed. There are a few things that I dislike about Vancouver in comparison to Calgary, but damn, their recent developments and specifically the TOD's are just epic! I think our city council needs to take a school trip out to Van and comeback and realize the junk them and previous councils have...

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I I highly doubt a tourist would want to stay in Airdrie seeing that all the action is in Calgary. Our bedroom cities suck big time. I never book stays far away from a central hub of a city or access to public transit. Plus all the tax collected could be used to help offset property taxes or...

    General Construction Updates

There once was a time when Calgary's quality of developments were neck and neck with Toronto's. Nowadays, we'd be lucky to get a top end midrise or tower that can compete with the average Surrey midrise or tower. It's like developers are just pulling these unbuilt old designs from 2008 and using...

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I’ve suggested it before and I think it’s about time the city explores the idea of imposing a toll charge when entering into city limits. Our city is a large geographically well defined city with no cities hugging our local streets, unlike other Canadian cities. If this arena goes through on a...

    Stadium Shopping Centre Hotel | 46m | 11s | Western Securities | MTA Architects

Unfortunately, nowadays, it seems like Calgary is one of the few cities left in Canada missing the mark on good urban design. We have some great development success stories. Redevelopment of Bridgeland and EV are great examples. However, after years of following our City development and...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

1.6% vacancy rate??Ouch. Looks like housing affordability is gonna become an Alberta problem as well. I still haven't understood why we're lagging behind in the number of new projects taking off? There should be at least double the number of towers and midrises being built right now based off...

Is that retail along the Lrt station? If so, I’m on board. This needs to happen!

The scale is great. These damn NIMBYist now have crowd funding setup? It's about time Calgary drops all designated Land Use like Minneapolis. The Nimbyist won't be able to keep up the fight.
