Quarry Park YMCA is easily my favorite location in the city. Just the right size for a community and the area around it, not some behemoth like Seton and Rocky Ridge. The library in this one seems to be attached in a similar manner.

I think the actual difference is tunnel boring 7 storeys underground vs a cut and cover tunnel two storeys underground, would probably be shallower than many parkades downtown

I find with city streetscape projects that usually after the concept design has been finalized with engagement, the detailed construction design is created internally then built without being shared

Guadalajara proper has a similar population to Calgary but is about 1/5th the size, as well as an urban area population of nearly 5 million. Honestly though that just makes the CTrain more impressive that we're at 94 million to their 168 million considering those differences

Fun fact about Guadalajara, its LRT system is the only one in North America that carries more people than the CTrain with 168 million pax in 2024

17th at the tracks has new access boom gates, so I assume the hard barricade will move down then the booms will control access for hotel loading

Btw the tunnel is actually quite spacious, it's just that this guy's 360 camera is mounted on a pole to get far above his head. Also, the pathway running along the border between Riverbend and Quarry Park has a nice crossing with 18th Street similar to what you described—just a regular signal...

I think Brightline West is the closest analogue to what "HSR" would be like to Banff A high speed trainset might also have better performance on grades

It's more like HSR is just a "might as well" if they're going to build a new alignment separate from CPKC anyways

When it originally arrived, the city said there were plans to display it for the public in the summer but I guess in the time between the final design review being completed on the LRV and the whole provincial intervention there wasn't a chance to. Hopefully they put it out this summer
