It's late Q3 2025 and they don't even have an approved DP yet. It's a huge project and likely a 4 year build. A 2030 occupancy would seem to align with a construction start next year.

In addition, free transit for youth is a great way to get young people acclimatized to taking transit. It's surprising how reluctant many people are to take a bus or train if they're not used to doing so from an early age.

I don't agree with extending the free fare zone, but we should be considering a zone-based system. $3.80 is a really steep price if you're taking the train from downtown to Kensington or SAIT (as I do). Conversely, it's an absolute bargain if you're going from downtown to Somerset-Bridlewood.

I really like the narrower 6 storey projects a lot better than the wider ones which often just don't look like they belong in the inner city (Sentinel being a particularly egregious example).

Rode by here yesterday and it looks like demolition of a few of the existing homes on site has started. Sorry, no pics.

Sad but not surprising. Even from the pictures months ago, this looks only marginally better than the new townhouse developments going up in Livingston, Belmont, Belvedere etc. Even the stuff going up in Alpine Park shows a lot more character and attention to detail than this does (IMO). Epic...

I'm more concerned about the extremely disruptive and lengthy construction process and what effect it would have - It'd be Marda Loop on steroids. Although I suppose building a tunnel would entail disruption as well (especially if it's cut-and-cover)

Running the line at grade on Centre St to 16th would be devastating for the businesses along that stretch.

But probably not a win from an affordability perspective, unfortunately

I am wondering, would having the station at Eau Claire above ground rather than transitioning from a tunnel to a bridge so abruptly reduce the cost of the bridge structure across the river? I assume it would make for a less challenging structure from an engineering perspective?

Yeah loads of that in the GTA these days. That 84 storey building in Mississauga is just overkill. I'd rather see the really tall stuff in the downtown area where it belongs.

With the state of BCs condo market, I see the Burnaby proposal being less likely to happen anytime soon than Stampede Station. .

This will settle the speculation. DP is in for "Stampede Station offices" located at 308 17 AV SW (interestingly enough, only a few doors down from Vesta's upcoming towers). It's just an extensive refurbish of the existing building and will include a "sales presentation area". DP2025-05111...
