I’m heeeeeeeeere! With my cat. But not as planned!

We’ve lost the Downtown core and most of the services for the town. I lost almost everything after the Wildfire, and now it’s looking like I’ve lost everything again. I surrender. I will be starting my new life in Calgary a little bit earlier than planned. My building is 20 feet underwater and...

I’m heeeeeeeeere! With my cat. But not as planned!

My building in Fort McMurray went under in the flood and is now out in the river like an island. I was evacuated yesterday. Got out with my cat and decided staying in Calgary was a better bet than in a evacuation shelter with thousands of people in the middle of a pandemic.

    Covid-19

Our average age here in town is about 31. And almost no old/frail people as we have no long term care homes. So I could see it going through without a noticeable death spike.

    Covid-19

Interesting that USA has now shown deaths positive for Corvid 19 going back to January, possibly infected in December. Interesting in that Fort McMurray has a lot of work related travel to and from China until recently. A huge number of people here think it swept through town around...

    Covid-19

@UrbanWarrior . The feds announced student relief today. $1250 per month until the fall. More if you meet other criteria. Starts May 1st

    Covid-19

Island nations such as New Zealand might eradicate it until a vaccine is available if they are willing to completely shut off access to everyone and everything in the outside world.

    Covid-19

I was never under the impression we were trying to stop it/could stop it. Just slow it down enough to not overwhelm our healthcare system and give more time to learn more effective treatment. I would think it will have run through most of the population by the time there is a vaccine.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

That top picture is totally something I would walk into, lol. Not watching where I’m walking, looking at other stuff.

    Covid-19

My elderly mom, who is usually a very smart woman, was brushing it off last week as “just a flu”. She’s always been a constant hand washer. Felt fine to keep going out and about. I couldn’t convince her otherwise, and I live far from her. So I have resorted to telling on her to my sister, who is...

Could you imagine if it was TWO people? Bit of a relationship test there. Particularly with the gym/facilities shut down in the building. Or if in true quarantine and can’t leave the room. I’d honestly take a square wide open bachelor suite with a balcony, than this dark tunnel. The floor plans...

    Covid-19

I see a ton of Airbnb about to hit the longer term rental market. Given most major events and travel squashed. I’m already seeing the ads coming on.

    Covid-19

All schools, licensed daycares, and now including places of worships in the gathering ban. We seem to have community transmission now and another large jump in cases last 24 hours.

    Covid-19

I was thinking ahead two weeks ago. I secured at least a two month supply of...cat food and cat litter bah ha ha. I also have a bit of food for me. ?

    Covid-19

Mostly working from home, which is usual for me anyways. I only go to my office IN the office a couple times a month tops normally. This virus might delay my move to Calgary a little bit, not sure yet. ?

    Covid-19

Fort McMurray has chronic supply shortages at the best of times. Fort McMurray is incredibly connected through social media. Most of the population communicates through local Facebook groups. Currently exploding with where can I find ANYTHING posts and photos of empty shelves. No milk, bread...

    Park Central | 138m | 40s | Hines | S.C.B.

No balcony. It’s literally a dark narrow path so tight you can’t even open the oven while standing in front of it. You have to stand to the side. Ive looked at all the floor plans. Toilet blocks the showers, two slivers of countertop, with no room for a table or other food prep surface. You’d...

It’s like the person who designed them has never lived in a tiny space.

    Covid-19

It was finally serious and proper address to the Country, instead of the flippant dismissal he’s had to date all while making a show of continuing to shake hands with crowds of people. He actually looked sick himself. He kept running out of air. Made me go hmmmmm.

One small window and no balcony. And price goes up if you need parking. Ridiculous.

    Park Central | 138m | 40s | Hines | S.C.B.

I can grudging accept one small window in a studio, but even some of the one bedroom units only have one small window in the unit. Bedroom has no window. Non functional micro kitchens. Sigh. Oh, and forget about a bathtub...
