    General Construction Updates

Interesting there was a house behind that building that was also torn down, which faced out onto sort of an imaginary back alley that went east to west in front of it...

    General Construction Updates

I hope there's something planned. As shabby as those buildings were they were some of the very few street-side retail on Macleod trail.

Interesting that they've labeled themselves a 'preservation group'. Seems dishonest. That said, "The city acquired the land in the 1980s and made an agreement with the former owner that the land would be used only for green space. " is kind of shady, What I'd be in favour of is to shift the...

“This is not about nymbism,” Pauling Shepard said. “This is about the reality that there may be better locations to build high-rise towers,” 🙃

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

One item I'm curious about is this one: 1.C.2. Rescind the Single Detached Special Policy Area in the Guide to Local Area Planning and relevant statutory plans, immediately. Being that the North Hill plan has already been passed would that need a council meeting and public hearing? Since it's...

They are free to request heritage designation of their homes at any time, but so far they mostly haven't, interesting hey?

    Infill Development Discussion

Question about rowhousing. Typically when one thinks about rowhousing they might think of a group of semi-detached without the spaces between, ei a row of houses each having rear yards. But all I have seen so far is more akin to truncated townhousing, with more or less no rear yards. Has there...

    Infill Development Discussion

In simplest terms residential on a retail street should be large enough to have retail units of its own to not stop the flow.

I find by the time you're supposed to replace it (~2 mos) the water is back to normal.

Yep, picked up a Brita filter last week. A family tradition the past few years. Came a bit early this year though I think.

I don't get the height opposition. It looks like it would shadow a couple of blocks of sfh at sunrise but would mostly be clear of them by mid morning.

    General Construction Updates

I think the argument isn't that the old building was better, but the scenario of a retained old building might mean a more pedestrian and inner-city-friendly replacement use sooner. The complaint with the new building is it resets the longevity of a drivethru at this location.

I love that with the Seattle one you click a pin and are instantly presented with a rendering.

    General Construction Updates

A bit offtopic but I wanted to get some opinions. I think the city's DMAP is a great resource, but I really dislike that all development permits are indicated the same way, ie a 4 tower redevelopment or a community sized greenfield development is indicated on the map the same as a 'new sign' or...

    Broadway on 17th | 154m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

There needs to be some serious thought to increasing the expense of hoarding unimproved land within the city limits. It seems to build, existing buildings need to be replaced because the vacant land isn't for sale.

    Broadway on 17th | 154m | 47s | Vesta | Zeidler

That's been vacant for 30-35 years. Most of that lot was a 3 story office building from around 1960 - sometime between 88 and 95

Can someone remind me the name of the project at the corner of 4th St and 17th Ave SW that is currently being demo'd?

That's the thing, there's Nimby and then there's Nimby. Complaining about parking, shadowing, loss of privacy, these may be valid concerns for an individual to have but those concerns might be outweighed by the need to densify. But this complaint about the redevelopment on the same parcel as an...

Any news on the old YWCA site downtown? Someone posted a photo on reddit of the building with a large "Priestly Demolition" banner on it but there's no permits on dmap or myproperty?
