    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I sympathize with "it's too expensive" after seeing the proposal for the $6 billion Eau Claire-to-Lynnwood line.

    Water-cooler discussion thread

The Back Alley tent is in Manchester, and plenty of homes across Macleod can hear it (especially last night at 1:30 AM).

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I have a friend who lived in Cliff Bungalow before he retired and was incensed by the idea of a 5th Street bike lane a half block from his house. Just couldn't stand the thought. He was a lifelong liberal voter, too.

    Calgary Regional Rail Transit

Isn't there also the issue of the area near Lac des Arcs, where there's not a lot of room to expand the highway? There's a mountain on one side and the lake on the other.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I think the buttons work that way in the UK, and they're great. Doing that here would require pedestrians to actually not cross on a solid hand, and I can't see that happening. So many lights skip the pedestrian cycle that we're trained to just cross anyway. You can see this in action in the...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

"inaccessible to pedestrians"... "labyrinth of tunnels"... pretty dramatic. I think I'm the only person left who actually likes grade separated pedestrian intersections. But, like one way streets, they have fallen out of favour with urban planners. I hate waiting at lights and I like an...

As an update: I noticed the land use redesignation was approved, and then the DP was approved and appealed, and it has now survived appeal. Added to the map: Arbour Lake Modular Town House

    1405 - 4th Street | 77m | 24s | GWL | Arcadis

Not that I agree with the "gentrification" sentiment, but people are clearly not pining for the big box Amaranth Foods or Sony Store with parking that used to be there. I think they see this development as a contrast to the cheap apartments across 4th, and worried about it having a domino effect...

See what I quoted above from @lemongrab - it sounds like there are 6 or 7 grade crossings along the route.

I think because it can only serve Sunalta in one direction (eastbound, going toward downtown), unless it's rerouted to a much slower route along 10 Ave.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I really liked it. I don't remember any significant delays in the street-running section downtown, and the trip down into the valley and back out again was fast. Frequencies were good, too. It made me excited for the next phase to West Edmonton Mall.
