    Forum meetup?

It was a good time. There's a lot of current, former and exiled SSP people who post here so there were lots of people who already knew one another, but there was room at the table for a newbie like me. Lots of good chats from various European travels to hating on Edmonton and the odd tasty...

    General Construction Updates

I'm not sure if anyone else spotted this, but Spruce Meadows is building a 5,000-7,000 seater soccer venue. In the hopes of including a Calgary based team int the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League next spring. I think it's a pretty neat idea. I'm curious to see how they work it...

    Beacon | ?m | 2s | RNDSQR | 5468796 Architecture

It's gives off a mature, for lack of a better word, vibe. Like a business man in a well tailored suit who doesn't have time for his own sens of humour. If that didn't quite sound like an endorsement, well it was supposed to. I really like it, but not unreservedly. For starters, how well is...

    Century Garden Park | ?m | ?s | City of Calgary | PFS Studio

Heh, this park is a rare case where the modern penchant to pave everything will result in less concrete. I feel sorry for the parkour guys though. I could get behind a city parkour park.

    MacKimmie Complex and Professional Faculties Building Redevelopment | ?m | 15s | U of C | DIALOG

Godspeed Prairie Chicken. One of the few, if not only pieces of weird modern sculpture that assault campus that I actually like. Edit: The red arch by the Oval also rules.

Thanks for the tip Slashist. Welcome to the site! :)

Sure I can kinda get that. They should have made those spandrel panes more goldenrod rather than canary. They're hardly noticeable as yellow. I still like it, criticism notwithstanding.

I like that the yellow breaks up the monochrome. I think it's coming together really well.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

If it's ripping on west coast hypocracy We're all getting in on, I gotta say that I've been loving all the articles pointing out that Vancouver is North America's largest coal export terminal.

Add one more if it isn't too late. I've been in Dublin since the 12th and haven't really been checking in so I missed the thread. I'd like to meet up. I'm back on the 27th, so May 2nd should work for me.

Something about the warm tone of your camera makes it look like you too those pictures in the early 80s or something.

I really like the look of the raw concrete and glass right now. It's a shame it will all be cladded over. Still, she's a beaut. I can't wait till both it at Park Point are done to judge the final products.

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

I think this issue might outlive Kinder Morgan's involvement. Apparently their Canadian subsidiary is already publicly listed and 77% Canadian owned and both the Federal and Alberta Provincial governments have indicated they're willing to purchase stakes if the Americans get cold feet. In this...

I think we as Albertans, especially lifers like myself have a odd disconnect with a key part of the Canadian experience. It is often expressed by the statistic that "90% of the Canadian Population lives within 150 kilometers of of the Canada-US Border." These days it's almost more of a truism...

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

There is one universally assured force for evil in this country, the BC NDP. They're the destructive willpower of Vancouverite Glass-Box Enviro-Social Crusaders made manifest. They're slogan may as well be "Harm BC, but first Harm Canada." The Federal Government should crack the Empire of the...

As a political conservative I of course wholeheartedly endorse any and all conservative partisan claims to Alberta's soul. :p I like you're blue banana though. And in the spirit of non-partisanship, I'll remind you that Alberta tends towards blue (and yellow) for our colours anyway anyway. So...

Great post indeed! It's definitely interesting to think of Calgary and Edmonton as the anchors of a future "megaregion." I don't know if that's a technical term, but I end up floating back to that wikipedia page every so often. It unfortunately tends only to outline developments going on in the...
