In the midst of a housing crisis, how are these NIMBYs even allowed to have any influence? They'll pull any BS from their NIMBY book to stop a project from progressing.
At times it feels like this City is run by idiots. They should've just removed a lane and expanded the sidewalks when they were renovating 17th Ave a few years back. It's like they push the can down the road purposely to have something to deal with later.
I think Canada needs to seriously consider reducing its immigration targets. Not enough homes are being built and not enough doctors and nurses are being recruited to accommodate for newcomers. Immigration is essential but these ideologically driven targets of approx. half a million immigrants a...
"That funding was intended for now cancelled projects at the Calgary Opera and Fort Calgary."
Looks like the Opera building for Victoria Park is cancelled
I just need one highrise node like Metrotown or Edmonds style to pop up somewhere, I don't care where, just anywhere! Help give YYC that big-city vibe. Then, when I retire my calgary skyrise account, it'll be in peace!

"But growth has seemingly not kept pace with other provinces like British Columbia and Saskatchewan."
I discussed this topic earlier last month but in Calgary, I'm finding the number of developments being proposed and actually...
When have condo presales been good in Calgary for the past 10 years? This is just part of the long list of developers bailing on unsold projects in Calgary. Developers like Truman are having to advertise to Toronto residents or occasionally we'll get a deep-pocket investor or fund buying up all...
Exactly! I love the tower look but the podium is a deal breaker for me. 🙁 We already have enough glossy shiny towers. We need more emphasis on solid pedestrian-oriented podiums.
WOW, if this happens with solid podiums, it will be a big win for TOD's in Calgary! This is how TOD developments should be approached, not the crap we got built around Shawnessey and Saddletowne. The only thing I would consider changing is integrating phase 3 developments into the BRT station...
Well for the longest time, Vancouver did have the tag of being full of "cloned buildings," but they've taken their quality up a whole another notch in the past few years. I guess that comes with the demand frenzy for a $600k studio apartment. But I do agree there needs to be more emphasis on...
For a long time, I felt like Calgary was right up there in competitive design with Van, but the 2017 housing boom has allowed Vancouver to pull far ahead. I'm sure we'll close the gap if Calgary experiences a condo boom in the future.
I never was a fan of this design since day 1. That dark brick wall with no retail bays along the LRT or 17th Ave side is a big lost opportunity for a solid TOD integration. This building is gonna be buzzing on event days and that's it. This contrasts with other newer convention centers that have...
Vancouver developers sure know what quality condo/apartment towers look like. IMO, Calgary's best-looking residential towers come from Metro Vancouver developers like Bosa, Intergulf, Bucci, etc. I wish we got more developments from them and fewer from developers like Cidex.
