    AHC 6th Ave | 25m | 6s | Attainable Homes Calgary | Hindle Architects

IMO, a building like this is better suited for an area like Kensington or Bridgeland. Would fit perfect there.

🤮That hardie board/vinyl finish killed it. Would've rather taken stucco. Every time I see this stripe pattern, I think of Calgary's cheap patented suburbia home sidings.

I know my opinion may be very unpopular but something about this tower is very unappealing to me. I don’t know if it’s the choice of materials, stale design, or the colour but something just doesn’t fit right. I understand it’s a rental but IMO the tower has a very subpar look when compared to...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Have been preaching this since day 1 on this site! Calgary's Downtown streets could become so much more vibrant to walk around with a few high quality Digital LED billboards placed along store fronts and facades of buildings. It's the one of those things still missing in Calgary that I see all...

TBH I agree. On top, the single story podium just looks very unappealing. Looks as if they threw in a retail podium last minute because they were forced to. Not a great design for one of the most important mainstreets in our city, IMO.

This reminds me, what's going on with EV606? Wasn't construction suppose to start this summer?

I just don't get why they didn't move ahead with the 2nd tower, especially with such a strong rental market for the foreseeable future. It'll just end up costing more to dig and build separately. I can see how projects like Hines Park Central made sense to do in phases at the time because of...

    West 17 | 35.05m | 10s | Truman | NORR

Looks solid so far. Would've loved to see another 10 floors or so.

I worked on the 1918 midrise across this site back in 2016. It was actually suppose to be a phased development by Truman. However, at the time, this second phase was put on hold due to the poor economy. Nice to see it make its way back around for development.

    Gallery First & Tenth | 60m | 19s | Truman

Tower looks great but not a big fan of the massing at the podium level.

Where are all the doubters that thought vibrancy cannot be planned into existence? Upon full completion, U/D, Bridgeland, and EV will be a solid gold standard for what "good" master planning looks like in Calgary. This will hopefully prevent future planning failures like a Shawnessy TOD.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

If I could buy out a condo with 300k cash and pocket most of the rent I would collect, I would. The cash flow is so lucrative. Most of these investors have deep pockets or individual investors with a lots of equity built up. Rental will always be a great investment. However, I'm just slightly...

    Francesco's | 48m | 16s | Arlington Street | DAAS

I knew the original renders were too good to be true but this is still a big win over what we have on the lot currently. As ASI completes more projects, I do hope they continue to gravitate towards more high quality designs like Bucci or Bosa.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

This is precisely my problem as well. I can screenshot so many streets off of Google maps in older communities where redevelopment is restricted and many single lots can accommodate 2-3 units of attached homes. I don't even want to get started with how much space we waste on dead grass that is...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Densify Calgay's current urban footprint to about 3000 people/sq.km and I'll fully get behind more greenfield development. We under utilize so much of our current land that all these Greenfield developments just don't make sense. Us Calgarians have fooled ourselves into believing everyone needs...

    West Nineteenth | 24m | 6s | EC Living | Casola Koppe

Whattttttt?? This was one of my favourite midrise proposals till date. What a disgrace. Day by day I lose hope in our planning commission and council. I hope this design is picked up and built somewhere else. Would fit great on an inner city main street or a commercial corner near an LRT...

    Balmoral Mixed Use | 25m | 12s | o2 Planning and Design

IMO, I prefer the tower. A tall block long midrise may create massing issues. Plus, if there are two more towers planned by JEMM, I wouldn't want to see only 2 towers stuck up. That would look a bit awkward. Might as well start creating a little high-rise node.

    General Construction Updates

Agreed, lived in the area for a large chunk of my life. It's just congested in the wrong way. Not very pedestrian friendly at all.

    General Construction Updates

An LRT extension to 85th Street is maybe the only suburb LRT expansion I would fully support. Density like that needs to be rewarded. Also it's not too far from the core in comparison to something like Seton (In terms of Km).

    BMO Centre Expansion | 25m | 5s | CMLC

With East Village still struggling to redevelop those parking lots, I doubt we'll see any towers in Victoria Park for a bit and I'm fine with that. I'd like to see those EV parking lots go first.
