    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

The mid-rise project next to Hotel Elam is now under construction. Not sure if there's a thread dedicated to this project (couldn't find it).

Also in tight floorplans like this - why not use sliding doors for closets, bathroom, w/d.

There are design guidelines which stipulate mass, form, and materials. They're right here: https://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Documents/Centre-City/urban-design-guidelines/section-4-the-development-guide.pdf and here...

    Park Central | 138m | 40s | Hines | S.C.B.

These prices are definitely inflated. Although I said the same thing about Underwood and they look like they've had success. I pay $1210 for just under 600 sq ft in a new building in the Beltline.

    Francesco's | 48m | 16s | Arlington Street | DAAS

Can't imagine Arlington Street will be doing more than one project at a time. And The 5th is definitely their next project.

Are you referring to East Victoria Park - because East Village (EV) is not intended as an entertainment district - East Victoria Park is.

That's an Anthem owned property - with nothing imminent coming. However, further to the North of that the site is owned by Cidex (the parcel currently parking adjacent to Elbow River Casino). It's called The Hat at Elbow River.

    Meredith at Edmonton Trail | 14.63m | 4s | Gravity Architecture

Ah fair point - although the sentiment still stands. Although, the onus less on the developer in this case, and just a broader discussion about how utilitarian we treat the public realm.

The header photo here gives you an idea of how the building will interact with Scurfield Hall: https://www.ucalgary.ca/news/youre-invited-haskayne-capital-expansion-project-open-house I think it will be solid addition and will make for a more welcoming entrance to the School of Business.

I have serious reservations anytime the garbage dumpster is the first point of interaction with the public realm.

    Arris - 5th and Third | 142.03m | 42s | Embassy Bosa | Amanat Architect

Exactly this. Originally it was to be a combination of City Market, Shoppers, Joe Fresh Clothing. By moving to the Superstore brand, these other stores have been swallowed up through what is the normal product delivery of Superstore.

    Hat @ 14th Street | 94.48m | 28s | Cidex Group | NORR

14th Street would rank as one of the last streets I would opt to live along anywhere within the inner-city. Change starts with a project and builds from there, but the inhospitable pedestrian environment that is currently 14th would discourage me from living in this one.

    Block 23 - Central Park | 12m | 3s | Gibbs Gage

Well I am impressed by the University District - I don't suspect it will do much to shed the commuter campus vibe. Consider 'who' the district is being built for - the residential development is targeted more at hospital staff, staff and faculty at UCalgary, and existing residents of the NW...
