    Oxford Tower | 262.12m | 62s | Oxford Properties

OK, fair enough, it looked like it was meant to be trolling, but since it wasn’t we can carry on with the discussion. As I mentioned earlier, unfortunately, this won’t likely ever get built.l, and maybe that’s a good thing. A tower this tall, mixed use would be better rather than a big office tower.

    Calgary Cancer Centre | 75m | 14s | Province of Alberta | Stantec

As far as the pedestrian bridge, I have a couple of questions. When does it open, and who will be the first SRC dude to cross it? Nightryder or Surreal?

It’s a combination of the oil industry and Banff tourism. Tourists were coming from all over including as far as Europe direct to Calgary long before the 90s and not just during the summer. Direct flights in from the US were fairly busy even in winter with skiers coming from the US.. obviously...

    Munro | 26m | 7s | Calgary Co-op | NORR

I could see it becoming a mini version of Metrotown. The North Hill site is only a fraction of the size of Metrotown, but it could be similar, only on a smaller scale. That parcel is begging for some development.

    Varsity Mixed Use | 25.91m | 6s | City of Calgary | MBAC

It’s not the most beautiful project from an architectural standpoint, but IMO this is a near complete win. Adding affordable housing on an empty lot that wasn’t being used for anything, and incorporating a new fire station, alone is big improvement

    Imperia | 95.3m | 27s | Truman | NORR

This is great news. Another empty lot is disappearing, and it’s a block from the 5th Street cycle track. By my estimation and opinion, we have at least 4 new high-rises in the Beltline ‘area’ that are a go. Nest Francesco Yellowstone (recently started) Imperia And of course, we have 4th Street...

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

Don’t even get me started on remote IT support. 😡 that’s a whole thread unto itself.

Before the 1515 tower, Montana had some brick about halfway up, but here you don’t see brick on high rises often.

    Calgary International Airport

June stats for YYC. Domestic still sluggish, but trans-border and international looking strong.

    The Hive | 27m | 9s | Jemm Properties | LOLA

Generally speaking I agree. The faux wood in Hive is better than most though.

Normally you’d expect the backhoe after the drilling, but either way equipment on site is a good sign.

I think they may have taken the crane down. I didn’t see when I passed by earlier today.

    Cars, Pedestrians, Cyclists and Transit

Here in NA so much of one’s lifestyle depends on where they live and work, where their children go to school, what their hobbies are, etc My wife and I lived in lower Mount Royal and lived without a car for three years. It broke down and we planned on getting it fixed, but eventually made do...

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I can’t think of any, but just about every new stadium in U.S. has incorporated a big wall of glass for natural light.

    University District | ?m | ?s | University of Calgary Properties Group

Interesting. No plans for family housing, I wonder if there are plans for general student housing, or will the university turn it over to be developed like the rest of U/D?

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Ottawa's not really booming, at least in comparison to Calgary. It has more high rise towers u/c, but far less housing starts overall than Calgary. Why Ottawa has more highrises than Calgary, I don't know, but maybe like SP said, it's to do with the cost of other types of housing. Housing...

It’s in the Calgary CMA, but I can confirm the cranes are gone now.

    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

There’s no question the city and Green Line team screwed up when they initially budgeted, but at this point even with inflated costs, we need to build it. We’re a wealthy city of 1.5 million that’s growing rapidly, and densifying heavily in the areas that this line would serve. For me, I’m not...
