West Village Towers | 149.95m | 42s | Cidex Group | NORR Dubai Yahya Jan

They’ll lease out eventually, but it’ll take some time due to 9th being such a car sewer wasteland.

    General Construction Updates

That sucks, I have a feeling one of the city’s highest profile intersections is getting stuck with another surface lot. 😕

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

Surreal places covered it best, it’s not a case of wealth but where that wealth has been focused. Calgary and the other major cities in Canada are wealthy cities by world standards. I don’t agree with all of the ways the wealth has been put to use, but Calgary’s a wealthy city nonetheless.

    General Construction Updates

I don’t remember the name but it’s some sort of seniors home.

Resisting the push to Calgary’s suburbia

Agreed. Adjusting the tax inequity isn’t the cure all, but at least it helps. I would prefer not to subsidize inner city development, but rather adjust the taxes so they’re based more on usage rather than market value. In a roundabout way this would promote inner city development without...

    Calgary's Homeless

Agree. Having kids for sure changes things, that’s why downtown residents are mostly young singles, young couples or empty nesters. My son wanted to take the LRT as he had never been on it. We took the free fare zone from the library to Kerby station and back. In the short time we did that we...

    Taxation and Density in Calgary

I will add my two cents on the whole ‘Mount Royal’ conversation. Well, I agree, and enclave close to downtown full of large single family homes is not very efficient, and would definitely be a good spot for multi family development, I am OK with it as long as it’s only a few neighbourhoods. A...

    Taxation and Density in Calgary

I think we should take the topic of poverty out of this conversation. I agree wholeheartedly, that there is an issue with poverty, and should easily be a whole other thread discussion . For this particular discussion about taxation and density, it’s about what parts of the city are the most...

    Taxation and Density in Calgary

This. The city says they are trying to control sprawl and encourage density, but their tax system says otherwise.

    Statscan numbers

I’ve seen that also, somewhere that people were saying, the estimates were actually more accurate. Might’ve been on SSP, can’t remember. The thing with the census is I think they can be out by 2.5% or something which for Calgary could be 40,000 people. I’ve known people in Calgary, who didn’t...

    Aria Encore | 56m | 17s | Gracorp | Zeidler

Calgary’s population is exploding right now, and university district has good momentum, it would make sense to start this project.

This is solid. The arched doorway on the corner takes it from average and adds some urban zest.

    Calgary International Airport

^You can see that YEG has already leveled off starting in 2014. I doubt we’ll see much growth for them in the coming years. It took them longer to flatten out than Ottawa and Winnipeg, but that’s the direction they are going.

    Davenport House | 26m | 7s | Statesman Group | Arup

This rendering shown in an earlier post looks great, but this is kind of density is never gonna happen. They need to take this concept and port it over to Westbrook.

Currie has been slow to get off the ground, but with this the other building he across the way it’s got some momentum.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I would say that it makes no difference to the hotel people at this point, as there will be an arena nearby either way. The timing might have more to do with the BMO expansion..

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

No surprise there. That'll be the case for all large metros in Canada. SFHs are becoming unaffordable, and we might not see that change anytime soon if ever.

I wish EV had some developments of this scale, rather than a handful of large podium multi-tower developments.

No offence to the people who live in Dalhousie, but this is too nice for Dalhousie.
