    Hat @ 14th Street | 94.48m | 28s | Cidex Group | NORR

The architect who designed WVT was from Dubai, and the podium looks like something that belongs in Dubai.

    Roads, Highways & Infrastructure

This last paragraph sums it up well. Realistically acknowledging that roads and cars won’t go away, and that some people have no choice but to drive vehicles and instead of shaming people for driving cars we need to work towards better infrastructure for those who can’t, or don’t want to drive...

    Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

So black vinyl trim along the edges, as the rendering shows. I’m anxious to see if they stick with the other material in the rendering, or if it gets VE’d down do some sort of beige vinyl siding or something.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I’m of the opinion to change the blanket zoning for all parts of the city. As things progress, most of the high density development will still be in the inner city and core anyways but at least this gives some opportunity for higher density in some of the outer neighbourhoods.

There’s construction on the street and sidewalks around the lot. Maybe they’re waiting for that to finish up.

    Racism and Zoning discussion

This is where I stand. I don’t fundamentally have an issue with rich people living in more exclusive neighbourhoods, but as you put it, people have to bend and be reasonable. I can guarantee you nobody here on this forum would want a drop in centre built in their neighborhood, and many wouldn’t...

Those pictures are great Surrealplaces. This is the way East Village should be, and could be if you didn’t have to step over homeless people while walking the neighborhood. I feel for the homeless population, but at the same time it’s so frustrating.

Those hills you see near the man made lakes in the south (Bonavista etc..) were made of the earth taken when they dug out the lakes.

    Water-cooler discussion thread

For some reason I haven’t noticed the water taste, but a lot of people have been complaining.

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

I wouldn’t use it for teachers salaries, that should come out of the CBE budget like it normally does. It should be used for smaller one time costs like social events, field trips, minor improvements here and there. New basketball hoops, that type of thing. Minor asphalt repairs to the school...

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

At $2 million, the schools endowment fund would easily generate $100,000 a year and that’s going with only a basic guaranteed income investment.

    Oakridge Co-op Redevelopment (Oakridge Crossing) | 43.89m | 12s | Calgary Co-op | Sahuri + Partners

Agreed. Housing starts are very sluggish. There are dozens of proposals around, and few of them seem to be moving.

    Shaganappi Multi-Residential | 20.6m | 6s | Advent | Gravity Architecture

I guarantee there will be opposition, but they won’t have a lot to stand on as this is right across from an LRT station and the city knows this is exactly what is needed.

There was originally a different design by a different developer an architect, so that’s probably why there was a separate thread forward at the time. Same name, but a different project altogether.

    Calgary International Airport

8.5 million PAX in the first 6 months. Not bad at all, edging close to 2019 numbers. Interesting trend in relationship between YEG and YYC. YEG for the first 6 months is 3.2 million. Down from being about half the traffic of yyc in 2019 to now closer to 1/3 the traffic!
