Some of the white and blue painting starting on the other facades...sorry for the lousy pic quality

    421 17 AVE | 17.5m | 5s | Arcadis

As a resident of the neighbourhood, I much prefer this over the grey and white stucco boxes that are going up all over Mt Pleasant and Cap Hill. A lot more of this, please!

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

that is amazing! Also there are a lot of other buildings - especially the highrises in the West End - that were built in the late '90s and early 2000s. A couple minor additions - Chocolate was finished in 2006, and Sasso and Vetro were finished in 2006 and 2008. And don't forget the BMO...

I'm a bit disappointed that there won't be a construction start this year.

I absolutely love that idea from Victoria! I think whatever does happen to the Bay building, it will need to have a variety of uses/tenants, and residential over retail would fit the bill nicely.

I wish I could be excited about this project but all I see it as is a missed opportunity. We lose some cool, smaller character retail buildings and all we get in return is a bland multi building that looks like it belongs in Skyview Ranch. We're not even getting rid of a parking lot FFS.

I'm fine with those, not spectacular but we've certainly seen far worse.

Not to be a wet blanket but it could also be that the developer is no longer pursuing the project. It seems like a really long time for a project to be moving through the DP process. In checking their website this developer usually does very small scale stuff. Perhaps they can't make the...

    West Nineteenth | 24m | 6s | EC Living | Casola Koppe

This is exactly the kind of development I want to see a lot more of along our various "main streets".

    Yup. DP2025-04674.

    Midfield Heights | 40m | 11s | City of Calgary

Looking at the site plan, I'm betting blocks 9, 10 and 11 - the ones right on 16th - will be 6 storey wood frame.

So, the first DP is in, this one for "Lot 3". Architect is "Pact" and developer is "Alpha Built" out of Edmonton, who have done/are doing a few decent buildings here in Calgary including the 6 storey Kingslanding building and some of the midrises in Shawnee Park. I'm just not a fan of these...

    The Gryphon | 22.7m | 6s | Mancal | LOLA

I'm assuming "normal retail" refers to stuff that meets day-to-day needs as opposed to high-end drinking and dining? I think it speaks to the broader issue of gentrification leading to a loss of budget-friendly local businesses and seeing them replaced by chains that can afford the higher...

It's like they deliberately removed everything interesting, cool or creative from the previous version. What a letdown.

I can't believe how quickly this one is going.

    Infill Development Discussion

It'll be interesting to see what 20th Ave looks like in a few years. I can't think of any other street in the inner city areas that is seeing as much new development.

    Eau Claire West | 109.11m | 33s | QuadReal | NORR

To be fair this just indicates the building plan based on the land use they applied for. Assuming their Land Use application is successful, Development Permits (DPs) will need to be applied for. Without seeing those DPs, all we know is the heights being applied for, and. Considering the...

    Eau Claire West | 109.11m | 33s | QuadReal | NORR

I was thinking the exact same thing. Once the pension funds start contemplating development, time to sell. The pension funds and their developer spinoffs have predicably awful timing.

    Stampede Station | 277.3m | 71s | Truman | NORR

Wowsers. The first image really gives an idea of its impact on the skyline. This complex might just give us a better north-south skyline than an east-west one. That ought to safely make us a very distant second to TO when it comes to impressive skyline from pretty much any angle.
