    Should be a crane soon!

    Calgary Stampeders

And more than the Raptors who also get shoved down our throats. I am a bit disappointed that the wave of patriotism sweeping the country hasn't translated into more enthusiasm for the CFL. Most teams are apparently losing money, and the Stamps' attendance is down. I think it's a great...

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

The unemployment situation is a bit complicated: Alberta still has the highest workforce participation rate in the country, so even with our higher unemployment rate, we still have a higher share of people working than any other province. We are also by far the fastest growing province, which...

    Stampede Station | 277.3m | 71s | Truman | NORR

I was hoping Truman would start construction next year, but oh well. Perhaps they are trying to coordinate their trades, since they have so many projects on the go and a bunch more (West District, Marc & Mada etc) in the pipeline. It'll be interesting to see who starts construction first...

    Place 800 | 68m | 17s | Peoplefirst

Don't forget the ~10 storey building on the SE corner of the TransAlta/Beltline Block site! Each of these will be home to at least 100 (probably many more) people, which should really help with downtown vibrancy.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It's just a Land Use application so even if they get 12, they might only go 6 to save money with wood frame. I do think the 6 storey development that went up a few years ago is perfect height and scale for south side of the park.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Claiming that development will encourage "transience" and "social disorder" is one of the dumbest arguments I have ever heard. Good news is, even though it's an election year, most of the current Council (including the area Councillor) aren't running again, so hopefully it will pass. Edit...

    The Broward | 19m | 6s | Truman | MoDA

Village Ice Cream sells ice cream flavours for dogs which is kinda cool. Even as a non-dog person (well, I have a dog but just prefer my cats), I agree its pretty cool how we've become a very dog-friendly city. The only place I saw someone refused entry with a dog recently was at the Sheldon...

    Stampede Station | 277.3m | 71s | Truman | NORR

Honestly, for me a "high-end retail street" is way down in my list of things we are missing right now. I'd prefer something that us plebes can enjoy. Really digging the movie theatre idea, especially since we've lost the Eau Claire cinemas. Just generally, I'd like to see more amenities that...

    Calgary International Airport

Seems like WJ has a fairly substantial presence in Halifax. I could see some of those 787s go to there, or Toronto. If YYC could snag 3 or 4 of those 787s, I'd love to see flights to Dubai, HK or somewhere in mainland China, and a big South American hub (maybe Bogota, Santiago, Lima or one...

    Calgary Municipal Politics

I like the fact that the Calgary Party are positioning themselves as the centrist option, which is roughly where my leanings are. But Thiessen just doesn't seem to be getting any momentum, and the race seems to be morphing into Gondek vs. Farkas - the sequel. As for my local CP candidate...

    Plaza | 109m | 33s | Cantiro | GEC

The site has been cleared of the vehicles and seacan's that were sitting there. Looks like action should be starting very soon.

Calgary public disorder & safety thread.

Agreed, but it seems like the police focus very much on busting the larger scale operations. Not sure why that is, or if they are being directed not to bother with the smalltime dealers. I did a bit of research on federal penalties and there are minimum sentences that could get these people in...

Calgary public disorder & safety thread.

To be fair to the police, it's a very difficult issue to solve, and there is not a whole lot they can do. They can issue a citation, knowing that the perpetrator will not pay the fine or turn up in court. In most cases there isn't grounds for an arrest. If they force them out of one part of...

    1216 8th Street | 87m | 28s | Great West Life | Zeidler

The second is for a 28 storey tower in Beltline, GWL Realty is developer and Zeidler is architect. This building will not replace a parking lot, unfortunately, but it will replace a shitty little single storey retail building that looks to have been built in the '80s or 90s. It'll have 240...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

The first one is a 6 storey project at 101 25 AV SW in Mission, being called "Shorecrest", that will have 74 units. Architect is Manu Chugh and developer is "Mission River Capital Corp".

    JEMM 16th Ave | 25m | 6s | Jemm Properties | NORR

I'm optimistic, JEMM seems to use good quality materials and their buildings usually meet expectations. I would not call this building a "looker" by any means but I think it'll turn out ok.
