    General Construction Updates

It'll be so nice to see an empty lot on 33rd disappearing.

    Daily Photo Dose

Took a look through all of these photos. You've got some great pics there UW.

    The Theodore | 35.66m | 10s | Graywood | Arcadis

And it'll continued to roll. Same for the other inner city neighborhoods circling downtown. With wood frame now allowed to go as high as 6 floors. I expect we'll see loads of developments similar to Victoria on 5th sprouting up everywhere.

    JEMM 16th Ave | 25m | 6s | Jemm Properties | NORR

Not yet, the public hearing it is set for May 21. I would be surprised if it didn't get approved.

    Nimmons Court | 32m | 6s | Brava Developments | Casola Koppe

I hope they take some footage when the house gets moved.

    Courtyard 33 | 21.64m | 6s | RNDSQR | 5468796 Architecture

Calgary has just under a million trees, so a billion would probably make a difference. That many trees in the middle of a forest wouldn't make much difference, but in a city where 3/4 of the land is occupied by buildings, parking lots, sidewalks and roads it would be huge. I don't remember who...

    General Construction Updates

We should send a petition to the CBC asking them to stop using him for these kinds of articles. It comes across as laziness on CBC's part, either that or he's related to someone who works there. Either way, they need someone young and fresh for this kind of topic. Someone who has a clue.

    Hat @ 14th Street | 94.48m | 28s | Cidex Group | NORR

There was a pickup truck at the site yesterday when I was driving past. I didn't get a look at the name of the company on the truck, if the truck is there again today I'll try and get a better look when I go past there.

    Courtyard 33 | 21.64m | 6s | RNDSQR | 5468796 Architecture

I think it's gonna be fine. A downgrade from the renderings, but better than most other developments, and it'll be an interesting building at the very least.

    Sunalta Heights | 88.39m | 27s | Housing One | S2

Passing by a couple of high-rises will make for a nice entrance into downtown for people on the train.

    Covid-19

Agreed. I meant to say lack of will or 'fear' of large disruption.

    Covid-19

So some rich people with secondary houses complained to our government along with with some towns like Kimberly and Cranbrook, complaing to their government but that’s not why BC chose to keep the borders open. It’s also not reason other provinces kept their borders open. Having a number of...

    Covid-19

You're oversimplifying things. I agree wholeheartedly that Alberta could have done better but you're exaggerating things. The borders weren't left open for a few rich people with houses in BC. Is that why all the other provinces including BC left their borders open? Because of rich people with...

    Covid-19

Geography and population are part it, among other things. Places like the Maritimes and New Zealand are examples of places that controlled the virus, but most places don't have the equivalent situation. If New Zealand was a province in the middle of Canada somewhere the story would have been...

    Public Art

Nice rundown. I didn't know we had all these statues around the city and the history behind some of them.

    Calgary real estate market

https://calgaryherald.com/life/homes/new-homes/sellers-market-emerges-as-more-homes-purchased-above-list-price-in-calgary The market has picked up in Calgary and across Canada. Part of it is pent up demand due to covid.

Which inner city area is king?

I Agree with you. Marda Loop tends to be a nice walking area overall, but has challenges with traffic on 33rd at times, and it's something that can be fixed if there's enough willpower.

    Oxford Tower | 262.12m | 62s | Oxford Properties

I would imagine the price of an office tower in Calgary ain't what it was 10 years ago, or even 3 years ago. Remember the Bow costing a $1Billion to build? I don't know of any office building sales lately, but $120 Million for the Nexen tower seems doable. It's a 40 year old building with few...

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

Exactly what I was going to say. Overall the arena in Edmonton is pretty good, and is an upgrade from their previous arena, but there are lessons to be learned. I agree 100% about the cold sterile feel, and I'm not a fan of the tall buildings around it. They are part of the reason it has that...
