    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

A true park would be nice, but I agree it needs to be mixed with other sorts of facilities. Basketball courts etc… would be good. What would be great is a couple of restaurants like The River Cafe, but less fancy, with patios fronting the river pathway would be amazing. Maybe a couple of kiosks...

    Stampede 2023

I went to the stampede grounds for the first time since before Covid and enjoyed it. Not much has changed, but the key is to go every few years.

    Alberta Provincial Politics

My apologies for all the posts, but I’m gonna say what others have said. Regardless of the fiscal spending side of things, the UCP is downright scary. Voting Danielle Smith in wouldn’t be good for us here in Alberta, and it sends a message to the rest of Canada that Alberta still has a high...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I wouldn’t count on the UCP spending less money overall, yes, they might spend less money on healthcare or education, but as we’ve seen in the past, they are capable of spending money on things like pipelines or giving away money to oil companies to clean up their wells. It’s not like...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

Not necessarily. My sister has always been on the fence when it comes to politics, at times voting, for a party, based on one particular issue. She was planning to vote for the NDP, but might be voting for the UCP because of their promise of extra policing. She doesn’t believe the NDP would do...

    Calgary Municipal Politics

The forum is geared toward development, but I’m glad there’s a thread for municipal politics, otherwise it would pop up in the other threads. With this thread you know what to expect.

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I’m feeling positive about this election. Either way it’s a loss for the UCP. If they win it’s not total victory in the sense that a party uniting the right, in the province of Alberta was barely able to beat the NDP. It would be a statement on where they’re headed. If they lose it’s much worse...

    Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

Given the location I’m happy to see something is even being built there. If it has a cool screen covering and other stuff, that’ll be a bonus. If it is hardy board or cheap siding, I will still be happy.

Once 4th Street lofts are up, there’s gonna be a canyon from that same view.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I don’t think it’s a case of bulldozing every land-use that’s out of step, a cemetery no matter how you look at is 99% a waste of land, especially inner-city land. We have lots of Innercity land, it’s true, but not all of it is great for developers, otherwise it would already be developed.

Hopefully they are able to top up their sales and get this built.

    Hat @ 14th Street | 94.48m | 28s | Cidex Group | NORR

I forgot that this is going to be taller than Sunalta Heights. Definitely going to make an impact on the skyline.

Is Marathon now Aspen properties, and same company, basically?

I like seeing the skyline extended west of 14th. It would be nice to see a couple more towers in that area.

    Aeropark 18 | 18m | 6s | M2SC | Casola Koppe

I was thinking the same thing. It seems like they are bailing out of everything midsized or larger. I have no inside knowledge but I’m pretty certain they overextended themselves. For a smaller company that did mostly townhome projects the change to projects like courtyard, 33, and flyover...

    Weather and Gardening Discussion

The long range for the next two weeks is colder than normal. If March is going to be colder than normal, let’s hope April is warmer than usual and we spring into Spring.

    Calgary Retail Thread

It’s unfortunate, but I’ve reconciled the fact that Chinook is king of the city when it comes to retail. I wouldn’t even mind it if the parcels to the east of Chinook could be TOD redeveloped and Chinook was a dense urban node.

    Trees in Calgary

The NE is combination of issues. Poor soil compared to the west side of the city makes it challenging. It’s also the least affluent of the quadrants. For many, trees are an extra cost to an already tight budget. Part of it maybe cultural. I’ve heard stories of people not being interested in...

    Trees in Calgary

I don’t think it’s likely to fail if the city is giving trees to people to plant on their property. People taking the time to register for a tree and go pick it up will take the time to water it. Some would die due to weather or disease but most would live. The city planting them in public...
