While skeptical of it ever coming to life, it's definitely a cool project and I wish it well. That area sure could use a shot in the arm (the good kind!).

Yeah, this definitely exceeded expectations. That frontage with the stairs and narrow sidewalk is still pretty terrible, but that's not really the buildings fault. Maybe someday they can extend the sidewalk.

Agreed, I'm glad they didn't just bulldoze this or add random color squares, but I would hardly call it some amazing effort in preservation. It's now the Temu of mid-century architecture.

I've been hearing this my whole life, but it's always been just bald-ass prairie to me. But indeed, that's what I qualified my post with a sacrilegious. I know there are plenty who value its current state. I'm just not one of them.

Yeah, unless we're talking Christmas time, I'm not a huge fan of coniferous trees in urban settings either. The addition of greenery is nice, but because they are so bottom heavy, they take up too much space and you can't really use them for cover/shade. Really wish the north side of the Plaza...

The Hyatt has been an awkward one from the start. It's like a weird French chateaux done in the style of the sandstone/western heritage theme of Stephen Ave....but without the skill/materials/budget to really pull it off. I don't think time has helped it either. I much prefer the Sheraton Eau...

I don't know if it has to be super specialized, but I do think they need to have a little more character than just a 7-11. I don't think a little corner bodega would be competing with the big groceries, but offering convenience and a little community charm that I think locals would get behind...

Is there another prominent plot of land or project that's been suffering from development blue balls for longer? Maybe the Eau Claire parking lots? Stampede Station? The mythical new ACAD building?

I didn't really have a problem with the heights before, but to be honest I think these reduced heights will make for a friendlier human-scaled neighbourhood.

Now we just need to take it to the next logical step and bring back the little mom-and-pop corner store.
