In 20 years most of the try-hard "eye candy" condos will look dated as shit. Actually a lot of them already do. I have no idea how this one will turn out... but personally I prefer an understated design, that's executed well, over anything too trendy.

Hopefully they can still keep the mid-century vibe.

Honestly, I too feel like it's a little out of scale as well for Marda Loop...but it's not a hill I'd die on. I do wish though the podium/street interaction was a little higher quality.

Knowing one of the people on the project, a few months ago, I had a quick glance at some of the working renderings for the Reno of the existing building. I remember it feeling very similar in tone to the new addition... which I guess makes sense, so not a particularly ground breaking post I'm...

Is it though? Strip out the nice atmosphere and lighting in the rendering, and I think you're just left with another generic condo. The only thing different is that the typically random color "flair" now has some more organization behind it. It's a Hat, with red stripes.

Honestly, wish we had more of this. This is the type of stuff that gives a city a great vibe.

Coming home from Europe (or visits to my in-laws in NY), I always basically have two reactions. 1) It sure is quiet and spacious here. 2) Thank jeebus for the dry air. On one hand, it's a bit of a letdown coming home from a more vibrant and culturally-rich destination... but on the other, life...

Looks like it's going to be spandrel/mullion city. Also not a huge fan of red/pink with architecture. But at least the podium is decent.

Calgary kind of feels like an Ontario offshoot some days.

I'm the last person who cares about height. In fact, I prefer low/mid rise buildings over towers. But this must be done. The world is not right till that wrong is rectified.

I don't really care about beating Vancouver, as long as we beat those turnip eaters in Shelbyville.

The silhouettes of these things have always been pretty neat in the skyline. It's just when you get closer and see the value-engineered crowns and terrible podium, that you're let down.

Even if it's just a single cm taller than Stantec, that's ok with me. Actually may even be preferable.
