I will continue to enjoy not going to big name concerts, as they are way to effin' expensive regardless of venue quality. Ah the good old days of seeing Radiohead or Weezer for $15 at Mac Hall. /oldman

Having a better space for concerts is not a BS argument by any means, but yeah, I feel like it got way too much weight in the argument for spending hundreds of millions of public dollars on a new arena. I'm sure it will be a positive addition, but listening to some people it was almost like we...

    Chinook Centre Developments

I remember the section of Brooklyn I used to live in (Greenpoint/Williamsburg) is notorious for having a giant toxic blob underneath it from all the oil refiners that used to be there. I distinctly remember an oil of smell in many areas. Nevertheless, there's countless luxury condo towers...

I'm curious what happens when our arena is finished. Will we take concerts away from Edmonton? Will tours just add Calgary on top of their tours? Or do we both get more tours because they CAN do both? With equally capable arenas, you'd assume Calgary would be a little more desirable destination...

It's definitely one of those buildings that looks good from far, but your impression degrades the closer you get to it. Kind of like my cars.

I'm not saying land is a guaranteed money maker (and it probably shouldn't be much more than a money keeper), but to me there's more baseline value there long term. The property that sits on it may fluctuate (in condition, size, value etc), but even if it burns down you have something of value...

Yeah, even though I initially bought it as a place to live not to rent out, it's been a pretty terrible "investment". And that was just the nominal difference in value...you'd think after a decade of inflation and a crappy CAD, I'd at least be closer to breaking even on paper. When you consider...

I'm still waiting for the 800sqft 2 bedroom Beltline condo I bought around 12 years ago for $290K to get anywhere close to breaking even. Last time I checked, comparables in the building were still going for around $240-250K.

The waterpark is literally the only thing that I’m jealous of from Shelbyville.

    Glenbow Museum | 43m | 9s | DIALOG

Maybe it's just me, but the new Glenbow looks like it will be pretty bunkerish as well.

Do event centers like this have a central kitchen to cook out of, or is everyone left to their own devices in their little unit?

    General Construction Updates

I get that the current building is in a sad state of affairs so the numbers to maintain in probably don't make sense anymore, but it would be easier to swallow if there was some incentive or desire to rebuild buildings in the same format or aesthetic as the doomed heritage buildings. You see...

    Trinity Hills | 20m | 6s | Trinity Group

We took our kids to COP this weekend for the first time, and I didn't quite realize how close to the hill these new condos are. If you squint your eyes just so, it's starting to get a bit of a mountain resort vibe which is neat...although kind of a cheap low-rent version. It could've been...

If it won't, I'm sure there will be a fire of convenience not long after. Can't wait to see what shitbox it will be replaced with.

Bridgeland has a little mini-version of Tomkins Park with a side road (General Ave). It's another one that already works nicely, but would probably benefit from making it fully car-free and opening it up to patio uses. These type of little piazza's/side streets are great. Need more of em!

Indeed, a wide pedestrian bridge, or just build things directly over the road Monaco-style.

    Enzo | 27m | 6s | Arlington Street | DAAS

The rounded brick looks great. My only real beef with this building is that I wish they just went brick on the whole facade. The cream sides and the hardy-board looking inserts cheapen the whole thing.

The accents are nice. Are those going to be on all the balconies, or randomized Calgary style?

Especially if the mix included a police station.
