    Infill Development Discussion

It's definitely out of scale for the context, the question is whether or not that's a good thing. I'd love to see some stretches of urban SFH turn into more of the New York (or even Montreal) rowhouse style, but it has to start somewhere. So if not directly adjacent to Kensington, where? The...

There was a building there 2 weeks ago, I'd say they're doing pretty good.

Reminder that it doesn't need to necessarily be a convention space, "conference" could just be the most appropriate Use Area for whatever the actual use is (i.e. it will need similar egress, structural, and mechanical and electrical servicing as a conference space).

Talked to someone on the project team, apparently cost/capital is not a barrier to getting this built.

I don't know if anyone has posted this or not, but Wexford is selling their development site directly across from the new Victoria Park Station.

    General Construction Updates

I've worked on some bridges, I really like this. This bridge specifically didn't need to be anything outlandish, it connects a large and beautiful park to downtown, and is right next to a Calatrava. It's slender, swooping, meets the needs, and focuses attention elsewhere. I'm looking forward...

Especially if they're currently separated between different floors & buildings, and just secured a billion dollar valuation with series C funding.

    Stephen Avenue Quarter | 241m | 66s | Triovest | Gibbs Gage

This seems rushed, and like it might end up in demolition of the historic buildings and a site that sits empty because the financing suddenly didn't make sense. I'd feel differently if this were on an empty parking lot - instead of directly adjacent to Telus Sky, on Stephen Ave, on a city block...

It's a Gensler project, GG looks like the Local Architect. 287m and 250m towers on the lot directly south of Telus Sky is really something. If you're gonna block it out of the skyline, it better be good.

It isn't about if it breaks the rules, it's about if the rules are right.

A lot of the work done was on the underground utility upgrades/relocations. Ripping up some asphalt and replacing with a wider sidewalk would not take long if they did it a section at a time. How much does it slow traffic when someone tries to parallel park in the single westbound lane of 17th...

The greenspace actually becomes useable too, not just pretty. Imagine trying to throw a frisbee or football in the current configuration.

This street needs to have 20' wide sidewalks on the north side permanently (Or at least better seasonal integration than this - see Elgin in Ottawa). I'm certain 17th will be fine with 1 westbound traffic lane from 14th ST W. eastward, and I guarantee that the wider sidewalks make those...

For reference, there's about 14,100,000 sqft of vacant office space in Downtown. Works out to removing about 3% of the vacancy, or equal to the entirety of then office vacancy in the West End (~498k sqft) [ CBRE Calgary Q1 2022 Report ]. Not quite a tide shift, but a positive impact none the...

Looks like they still need to add the PV on top, not sure if that would interfere with landscaping or not.
