    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I have a limited knowledge, does anyone know of teams/cities that have struggled this much to get an arena built?

    General Construction Updates

I feel like the bar to be competitive on the 'niceness' of a development is lower in Calgary for two reasons: Toronto and Vancouver have a much higher volume of urban development, and there's a ceiling in Calgary for how much they can charge before it makes more sense for a buyer/renter to...

    Calgary's Downtown Dilemma

I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but I found a good video that visualizes the economic benefit of urban development:

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

First, the Post is an atrocious group of publications. I know it's Alberta, but come on - we have to realize there's no feasible way of getting it to Europe in time to make a difference. There's a lot of valid criticism to throw at JT after all he has (and hasn't) done, but this isn't one of...

    Scotia Place | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

Nothing against The Nation, but I'm hoping that doesn't mean it would be built far away from downtown. The Ottawa Senators made a huge mistake building the CTC in Kanata.

    Park Central | 138m | 40s | Hines | S.C.B.

Which is why the City of Calgary, along with many others, removed mandatory parking minimums. If it's profitable, the developer will build it.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Cool to see new development; sad to see that basketball court go. People have been actively using it every single time I've gone by.

    Russia/Ukraine Conflict

    Well, here we go.

    Calgary Restaurant Thread

Neighborhood joint in the Mount Pleasant area of Vancouver, been around for about a decade. I don't think they output enough volume for it to reach us in Alberta, but they get the occasional BC Beer award. I've never had their stuff, but Justin McElroy wrote a review in 2017, saying "33 Acres...

    BLVD Beltline | 118.87m | 37s | ONE Properties | Arquitectonica

$/sqft it's meaningfully more expensive than UpTen, SoDo, and Arris - granted at BLVD the amenities are good, location is promising, and finishes look solid. But it's still sandwiched between two urban highways, and mostly surrounded by parking lots. The layouts also fall flat for me, take a...

    The Fifth | 17m | 5s | Arlington Street | NORR

I know there was a statue planned, but I'm surprised there's nothing on that corner. It's a great spot for a tree.

    General Construction Updates

I agree with you - and everyone else - mentioning that the core and urban communities are under serviced when it comes to fitness/leisure facilities. Was just pointing out something that wasn't a part of the conversation.

    11th + 11th | 138.07m | 44s | Intergulf | Ramsay Worden

Nice catch, guardian is listed at 146.9m, this is 138m. Both 44 storeys.

    Glenbow Museum | 43m | 9s | DIALOG

Interesting nod to the previous design I noticed in the drawings, the bump out/window/thing appears to be in the same general proportion to the metal accent pieces of the original:

    General Construction Updates

I like the west end, and I agree that it needs love, but it desperately needs to fix its colossal failures of planning first. Everything between 11th St W and Crowchild is a spaghetti bowl of car sewers and contaminated land. It boggles my mind how much money we sunk into infrastructure that...

The vic park station changes will definitely help too.

    General Construction Updates

Almost every residential building that has/will be constructed has a fitness facility in it. Of course it's not going to be as well serviced as a dedicated center, but it covers part of it.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Friendly reminder that (what will be) the 3 tallest buildings in Canada, Pinnacle One (312m), The One (308m), and YSL (299m), are all residential. Yes I know the markets are different, just pointing out we don't have to rely on offices to push us past that 250m mark.
