    Green Line LRT | ?m | ?s | Calgary Transit

I couldn’t agree more with Chinook arch. We don’t need to be building a go train for the people in Sage Hill. Building a line through Nose Creek Valley doesn’t serve anybody except for the people at the far end of the city.

    Statscan numbers

The gap will be much bigger now with Oliver, Nude and Park Central opening up in the past year. I would guess the Beltline’s population today is probably close to 30k.

We went from high rise drought to raining high rises in a month. Lol

Interestingly, when you look back at 1981, Edmonton and Ottawa were the metros that were growing, while Calgary, which was heavily tied to oil was struggling at that time. I remember all through the 80s my brother-in-law (who was from Edmonton) was constantly saying that Calgary was going to...

Month ago, we were complaining there wasn’t enough high rise construction action in the core, flash forward to today, it’s as if somebody pulled a slot machine handle and we won some high-rises haha

    Trees in Calgary

A quick, primitive number crunch shows if the city had started such a fund years 30 ago by adding as little as $2 million a year for the first 30 years and keeping all interest earnings for the first 20 years it could be as high as $100 million today. This year the fund would produce ~ $5-7...

    Northland Village Redevelopment | 19m | 6s | DIALOG

IIRC, there was also an issue with soil contamination in the former Sears’ parking lot due to a previous gas station. Even though the condo market is soft, I think they could sell condominiums at that location. Though maybe a different developer, somebody like Knightsbridge or Minto, where they...

    Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

It depends on what’s more important for people. How something appears from the outside, or what function does it provide overall? For some people it’s more important to have and ugly building supplying extra housing in a central walkable area, than it is not having to look at an ugly building...

I really like this one. I'm not usually a huge fan of the composite panels for exterior, but this one looks good.

Is the population for 2023, at the beginning of 2023, or at the end? I'm assuming it's at the end, but whatever the case, those are huge numbers. 64K, followed by 81K, and this year another 69K. I remember when topping 30k in a year was big growth.

    Urban Multi-Family Construction Count Tracker

It’d be nice to have more towers, and as a lover of skylines, it would great to have a few clusters here and there and a few more downtown. Having said that, I don’t want Calgary become Toronto or Vancouver where your choices are a $2million SFH or an apartment unit on the 50th floor of some...

    Urban Multi-Family Construction Count Tracker

High rise construction has slowed in other cities as well. Vancouver and Toronto are strong but have slowed, and they’re strong in the high rise dept mainly because housing is so expensive and there’s more incentive to build as many units as you can.

It’s still better than most 5/1s. I’m looking forward to seeing U/D after it’s built out.

This is a great pic. It shows how much 10th Ave has come in the past decade. 10 years ago this snd shot would have been nothing more than parking lots.

    Out and about

17th Ave has always been busy, but this summer it’s been literally buzzing every night of the week. It’s twice as busy as what it was before Covid.

    West Tenth 1400 | 24m | 7s | Trimount

The building design is nothing special but the population burst is nice. Also in general the intersection at 10th Ave will be 100 times better.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I haven’t used the 3rd Ave track myself as I don’t work downtown, but I can see how useful it would be for people who work in the area. I would be okay with the 3rd Ave track closing if the city stepped up and put one on 4th Ave. The goal should be to have at least one every two blocks (4th...

    Calgary International Airport

Went to LHR and came back from Paris back in July. We’re already planning our trip next summer, which will be Calgary to Barcelona and back to Calgary from Rome. We’re so spoiled having these direct flights.

Looking at that last photo of U/D you can see there is so much room to have a bike lane. It still could happen without much cost or effort.
