    Calgary International Airport

I'm hoping that there are some benefits for logistics that I don't understand because I've had the same thoughts.

Shout out to the curvy courtyard bench. That's a good bench.

    90% beautiful pattern, 10% sci-fi dystopia.

Unique condos with balconies have good resale. Just saying.

@Daveography that first one looks like the end of a solitaire game

Honestly something taller and more narrow would be fine there. Those photos are missing a tower peaking at the park from somewhere along 10th street.

If this one stalls again they should just put the units underground and leave the courtyard open like a subterranean riad.

These are great. Funny how the mid century modern influence seems to be getting a second life after years of criticism for being too big/monolithic/inhuman. I think what's different this time is they are less oppressive and more playful, for example with how this design has a gradually...

I'm impressed with the quantity of discourse around this what-seems-to-me-as-a-minor project in the scope of changes in the city. If I was building a 20 storey building, a location like this would be on my shortlist. Inglewood is desirable, underdeveloped, and sure to become more livable in...

So lucky to have such a beautiful pathway system. More than anything else, this is my favourite path of Calgary.

One of the best parts about any of those 4 buildings is getting an incredible view of the other 3.

Qualex transforms another neighbourhood. These guys seem to have a knack for finding the lot that gives the area a tired/dated/unwelcoming feel, tearing it down and replacing it with something that drags the entire block into the present.

I still haven't made up my mind on this one. Such an amazing context deserves a building that acknowledges it. Construction was interesting, but it seems better suited for an infill along macleod or 16th ave. I'll hold my final comments until I see the main floor.

    Verve | 82.60m | 25s | Fram | Giannone Petricone

This project somehow makes Bridgeland feel closer to downtown.

This is turning out to be one of my favourite skyscrapers ever. It's like it declares the end of the age of international style glass boxes as it pixelates into the sky. Plus, something about all those emergent patterns with the lighting and shadows makes it easy to stare at.

    New Central Library | ?m | 6s | Calgary Library | Snøhetta

I don't think I've ever seen a this combo of materials used so successfully: wood, concrete, cladding, glass. Given how basically every building integrates at least 3 of these materials, that's saying something. Here each material is perfect for its application.

I felt like it was lacking connections to the actual music scene in Calgary today. It seemed pretty focussed on the mainstream Canadian music industry. I'd like to see more connections to sled island, indigenous music, local venues, folk fest, etc.

I never thought I'd say this, but the blue is starting to grow on me. What started as a shitshow of surprises and poor management might become a distinctive bit of colour in our skyline.
